Who's up to cruise?

ok folks. lets make this official...

this weekend is forecasted to be in the low to mid 70's - February 5th, and 6th. in the cars and coffee thread it seemed like many people were interested in a cruise/spirited drive. we have two options:

1. Page Mill Rd to Saratoga Ave - Google Maps

page mill road goes to highway 35 which will go to highway 9 and finally end on saratoga ave.

page mill road is a tight road, with a max speed of probably 25mph safely (crazy twisties), however it leads to the wide roads on highway 35 where you can easily hit high speeds, then to highway 9 with many, many twisties leading down the mountain. the max speed on highway 9 is probably 35mph. there are a few hairpins and some slight apex's.

2. Highway 35 N/CA-92 E/Half Moon Bay Rd to Saratoga Ave - Google Maps

this would just be the longggg complete highway 35 route with a decent amount of twisties and straight aways. this is quite a popular road for alot of cars and motorcycles, so while speeding is likely, please keep it safe and sane ;)

regardless of the route there needs to be a few basic rules. some of the rules ive picked up from other cruises ive gone on with friends, and some are just common sense. the rules are for everyone's personal safety, so if you do chose to attend, follow the rules!

1. everyone who attends brings a 2-way radio - this is likely one of the most important, as its the only way to quickly alert everyone of any possible road hazards, authority figures, sudden stops...etc

2. because of the 2-way rule...when cruising, id recommend everyone to keep their stereos down. no one really wants to hear your car anyway..its a cruise. enjoy the sounds of nature/road, and your fellow drivers alerting you of any possible hazards.

3. at meet up locations, no revving, no loud music. everyone already thinks you're a wannabe racer, no need to give them cause to call the police and have someone possibly follow us on our cruise

4. when leaving meeting locations, drive safely and curteously. as i mentioned above..we dont need any reason for law enforcement to follow us. that means no cutting people off, no speeding, no sudden lane changes, no tailgating!

alright, so everyone vote, and suggest a time that would work best for you!

What is the time frame. Start and end time? I have work at 3 but I have to get ready pretty early. Thanks.

Another couple of rules that worked with my last club.
- Faster drivers actually go to the back of the tour, it's counter intuitive but because of the accordian effect, they will have to drive faster than the leaders just to keep up. Also, if there are any road hazards then the lead can caution the quick followers before the hazard clocks them.
- Periodically the tourmeister should pull into a turnout or gas station, etc. to allow the straglers to regroup.
- Keep safe spacing... I've already been rear ended once by an over excited buddy in my carrera. I made the error of stopping at a stop sign.

FYI - I voted for Sunday but can do Saturday also - or both!

chops 02-02-2011 12:33 PM

oooops forgot to add an option to vote for both!

navamous 02-03-2011 02:37 AM

I picked Saturday Route 2 since I'm not busy on that day.....:D

REMEMBER it is SuperBowl Sunday, so vote accordingly football fans. I'm in for Saturday Route 2. I'm down for a morning or noonish cruise, that way we can incorporate lunch and have the rest of the evening free. Depart around 10 or 11am.

chops 02-03-2011 09:47 PM

OH CRAP. forgot about the superbowl bahaha

SATURDAY IT IS!

209Z 02-03-2011 10:32 PM

honestly. Ur pushing this last minute. If anything do it the week before wekfest.

JohnCNewJr 02-04-2011 12:53 PM

Looks like I was the only Sunday voter and I was set for either or both days so let's call it Saturday and set a time. If we meet at 10:30, go pedal down at 11 then we can grab lunch somewhere mid point and head back. Car is all shiny and the weather even looks better for Sat anyhow.

JohnCNewJr 02-04-2011 12:55 PM

I also have three extra family band radios if anybody needs to borrow one. Let's set to channel 9, sub channel 1. Bring cameras!

bigdog1250 02-04-2011 01:23 PM

I'll take you up on one of those extra radios, mine are at my buddies house. I do have a Contour HD cam ready to rock. 10:30 saturday it is!!

JohnCNewJr 02-04-2011 03:55 PM

I have a contour too! Love it. Put the mount on the underside of my Valentine 1 below my rearview mount. Also have a Hero Cam on my rear bumper because I am pretty much a geek... Will use Roxio Creator Pro to cobble some front/back video - although I am not a very good editor...

Cool on the radio, two left...

So we are meeting at our usual meet up spot (Starbucks McCarthy Ranch) at 10:30 tomorrow morning?

JohnCNewJr 02-05-2011 12:01 AM

Let's do that. Could use a cup before taking off! See you there at 10:30. Hopefully we will have 4 or 5 of us. Sounds like Bigdog, Chops, you and me fer sure. CodeOfSilence, you coming?
