RELOAD .....

One aspect of the car scene is to pretty up your ride and collect awards for looking CUTE .... and I respect that.

However, few are more interested in actually driving and enjoying the cars purpose, to be driven.

So what am I saying, what am I suggesting?

I want to take SVZG up to the crest of MT Hamilton again, for a day at the James Lick Observatory. We will spend a few hours there as well as take pictures and enjoy the stunning views. The first half of this run will be casual driving, low key hill climbs, to enjoy picturesque views. Afterwards you can take your time driving back down the mountain, at your own pace.

The second part of the drive is the catch....

THE SECOND HALF..... "The Summit Run"

For those who want to let loose a bit, and push their car a little harder than the daily commute from home to work, work to home, can continue down the back side of MT Hamilton, 45 miles of twists and turns, ascends and descents, mountain passes to Downtown Livermore for Lunch.

Who isn't this second run for? This is not for people who hold up traffic on the highway, who keep in the slow lane. This is not for those who are afraid to really drive.

The second part of this run is for drivers who want to get to know their car a little better, a little faster. If you ever participated in an autocross, autox, or track day, this is for you. If you had a few speeding tickets over the last few years, this is for you. If you want to learn more about what your car can do, to the best of your ability, this run is for you.

There are no cops where we are going, only open winding roads, a great place to unwind and do some spirited driving.

Here is how you should prepare....

1) Fill up. Your car uses a bit more gas than usual when you drive more spirited.

2) Bring cash for lunch. We'll be eating in Downtown Livermore. I am still looking at a place we can chill at.

3) Slow cars need to pole position to the back, and I will be checking. If you feel the car in back of you is faster, let him pass when it is safe to do so.

4). Remove all the loose items from your car that will slosh back and forth on winding roads. Last thing you want is a distraction.

5). If your tires are extremely bald, sit this out, we don't want to risk an accident because of low traction.

Most of all, let's have some fun, look out for each other and have a good time. It's a New Year, so let's make this run a fun and safe one.

I hope to see you all there !

Ahh, just installed a new clutch/flywheel/CMAK. Gotta break everything in before I go on any spirited drives.

But this is a fun route, I used to ride my bike up to Mt Hamilton when I was more into cycling. With that said, be on the lookout for cyclists as this is a popular climb within the South Bay.

The drive up from the Alum Rock side is broken up into 3 climbs.
- First section should be pretty nice as the roads are paved
- Second section should be fine as well
- Third section towards the top may have light debris. Hairpins are steep, I can see this being a potential issue for really low cars.

You'll find the Lick Observatory at the top, and the views are pretty amazing.
