Alarm Install in NYC??
 

I'm thinking about getting a full 2 way alarm installed in my Z (better safe than sorry) and was wondering if anybody has recommendations on a store that has first hand experience installing alarms on a 370Z specifically.

I don't mind paying more for peace of mind. I want quality work done and not just a random hack job. Looking at getting the following installed

• Viper 5904V 2-way security system
• Audio Glass Break Sensor
• Battery Backup System
• Digital Tilt Sensor
• Ultra Sonic Sensor

Please think again about getting a proximity sensor for your car if you live in an urban area. They are not helpful when they go off for every truck bus and person that walks by and are the reason everyone ignores car alarms. If anything your car will more likely be vandalized then saved from a thief.

The only useful thing would be a tilt sensor which should be able to be fitted to the existing alarm circuitry by a dealer or installer with ease.

IMO Prevention is better then deterrence. Turn your front wheels in making them difficult to remove when parked. Park close to the curb making one side need to be jacked up much higher to remove wheels. Don't leave anything in plain sight if you leave anything at all in your car that's valuable.

You're right. I heard about those proximity sensors. I will not install those then. However, having a 2 way is still better than nothing. At least I will (hopefully) be notified as soon as something happens instead of being surprised when I find my car missing. I've had my car stolen before in the past because I only had a 1 way alarm. Didn't do me any good.

Simple truth is, if they want to steal your car, they'll find a way. I think your best bet is something like lojack.

Just be mindful of the range, 1500ft is under ideal conditions (a straight unobstructed line from transmitter to receiver). Any obstructions like other cars, walls, bushes, etc. will all cut down that distance. The best systems are ones that use the cell network to send you a message like the previously mentioned lojack with the early warning system. It can email, page, text, and call you a friend or relative.

The onion is a humor website, but its just there to show that no one cares when a car alarm goes off even people with car alarms. If you're in a store, and an alarm goes off in the parking lot outside, do you immediately think it's your car and come rushing out?

Yes, you're right about that. I may invest in LoJack instead in the near future when/if I decide to mod my car.

I agree that most people won't care, but that's where the 2 way alarm comes in handy. If I hear an alarm and I look at the receiver and it says it's my car, I'll be out there right away. If I didn't have a 2 way installed, I may mind my own business while my car gets jacked.

I was having dinner one night and heard an alarm go off. I parked right near the entrance so I thought it was mine, I did go out to check to see if it was my car (thankfully not). I've never heard my Z's factory alarm so I don't know how it sounds like lol.

I was looking for an alarm place this was the best I found in NYC. Not cheap but they do quality work.

Viper 5904 is $739.99 on bestbuy.com Unless you find it cheaper somewhere else. The remote is rather bulky, just fyi. The install of the unit itself packages out with labor, basically means that labor is free for the UNIT not the additional hardware.

For all the other components listed, you're looking at another $140.00-$160.00 in additional labor to install them.
