What happened last night to my car

Having really bad luck with my Z (one month into ownership)
and.

I had a major incident happen last night at my development when a tree fell down, and electrocuted the parking lot while cars went on fire. Somehow the damage only effected to my car was due to the tree hitting it, not the cars that had exploded directly behind! Probably one of the scariest moments I've been through since 10 years ago, Lipa took hours to shut the damn power off, firemen and police stood around helpless, while cars began exploding, 2 fires, one that looked like a roman candle, then one that begin in area with cars directly behind me.

13.2k volts, electrical humming, went to sleep thinking my car was done. I wokeup and saw minimal damage (compared to what I expected). Heard chainsawing all night, and didn't sleep much. Workers said they could feel the electricity in the work boots. Everyone came out and watched the cars burn and explode, nice morning!

Please recommend me a body shop in nassau county Long Island, only the best... Want my car fixed perfectly. Only damage that I can see is on the roof of the car and broken Tail light.

Car on Saturday ...

Marc,

I'm shooting you a PM now with some information.

MattP725 09-08-2011 12:55 PM

Wow you went to sleep through all this???

Way to dodge a bullet... glad it worked out better than it could have.

Cmike2780 09-08-2011 01:09 PM

Holy Crap! That's a close call.

Never had any body work done to the Z yet, thank God, but I think Performance Motorsports has an affiliated body shop in Smithtown. Good luck with the repairs.

I've personally used L.I. Proliner in Medord, unfortunately like 8 times over the last few years between me and my family. Each car has looked brand new after being sent out from them.

I've also heard good thins about performance autobody, the people mike is referring to

delusional 09-08-2011 02:20 PM

holy **** glad only minimal damage was done to your car.

red6spd 09-08-2011 02:42 PM

I cant see the pics since I'm at work on a crappy computer but your story sounds crazy. Good Luck man.

mjg 09-08-2011 03:06 PM

i didn't really get much sleep, the chain saw noises (and bad thoughts) kept me up. I kept thinking this was a bad dream.

I have to admit I am very lucky, and I think I prefer to look at this that way... If my car gets fixed, and the bs is over I'll be happy. Will keep the thread updated. Thanks guys

Look into Performance AutoBody right across the street from our shop. I had my personal Z in there getting body work and a full new paint job. I am very happy with the outcome. A lot of our customers all go there as well.

dam dude I hope your neighbors have insurance

mr_sk 09-08-2011 09:00 PM

Holy **** man - glad you weren't in the car or the lot! At least you car didn't get BBQ'd - that's ******* crazy. Good luck w/the body shop.

Hows the oil cooler doing? I still didn't get mine installed - I'm on for 9AM this Sat though ...

A guy in my development has pictures of the fire he took on his SLR, I tried to take a bunch of pictures they came out so blurry. This tree branch that fell on my car protected it from the flames...

The car drives fine. There are dents all around the body, and the tail light cracked.. The painted portion of the mirror came loose somehow (was whistling) snapped it on, seems fine heh

Should i get it repainted mint green???? ;)

Ben Oil cooler is working... I have no doubts my oil stayed at 220 degrees or less during this entire incident LOL

Finally got my car's estimate, and although my plans didn't work out at the first body shop,
my car is now with Performance Autobody.

(Nassau got hosed with Hail damage claims -- had no idea this was an issue)

Anyway I liked the first body shop a lot, was a bit worried I'd be taking a step down, but after seeing this place, I feel confident they will put everything together very well, and the car will take around 3 weeks to fix. Told me it would come back perfect.

Finally some closure on this incident

Nick911sc 09-12-2011 08:50 PM

Glad everything got worked out!

mr_sk 09-12-2011 08:58 PM

Hope that 3x weeks flys by for you. See you at the meet in a few weeks I hope. Just did my oil cooler on Sat, had a great experience at VTR.

More good news, I found a new winter car, well not a new one, a 1998 Legacy SUS. It's AWD, and will get a fresh set of blizzaks, that only cost around $400 on those oem wheels.... My Z is going to be covered up, and hopefully garaged as soon as I get it back (and weather begins to change).

My new vanity plates are on their way as well, just received the registration (so they accepted my crazy idea). Minimum 2 letters, and no one had ZZ. LOL. Someone at the Glen Cove meet last I was there gave me the idea, one of Arnold's friends. The Z may never be a sleeper, but it will be getting some Z's lol lol.

With a secured second car, and everything worked out, I plan on doing quite a bit of modding when finances allow for it. If next year is a big year for me, maybe a Stillen SC??? Those Rays forged rims may go on first. I'lll have all winter to plan out the ZZ ;)

Well I got my car back from Performance Autobody.

This was honestly the first very positive experience I had getting auto body work done, especially considering I had a negative experience last November dealing with some "luxury" auto body place in great neck....

The car looks better then the day I picked it up. Honestly the only thing I noticed was the smell of paint (inside), and a chip on the hood, and in the scheme of things that's nothing considering that this car had the top branch of a tree on it (during an electrical explosive fire), and now has a new roof, hatch, and as Wally put it: 5/8 of the car was repainted. Speaking of that, he was awesome to deal with, and very helpful through the whole experience. Very smart and honest guy. Pleasure dealing with him.

I'd never imagine myself praising the work of a body shop, but yea this place is awesome... I'll have pictures up as soon as time and weather permits, including the cool plates I just got for my car. Will bring it out Wednesday if we actually have a meet.

mr_sk 10-11-2011 10:15 PM

Awesome news dood - Unless it's pouring tomorrow night, you should def come out to the meet - I'm going to go unless weather is awful.
