Highway Speeds

How fast do you guys usually drive on the highway? Just wondering cause I see a lot of people say no more than 10 over PSL but then I never see anyone do less than 20 over PSL in reality on the highway. I'm usually at around 60-65 on 50mph PSL due to tickets form a few years ago :(

I hate highwat PSL's cause I always do SL +/-10mph and hate it. Then I see stupid people in POS' always going 90+ and pass me like crazy, or some ricer kid pulls up next to me wanting to go, and I know I could make him cry, but aside from racing being illegal/stupid... even if I wanted to I don't, then he speeds [at a really slow speed] off and it's just embarassing. I know that if I were to be the one doing 90+ there'd be a cop every 1/4 mile waiting for me... But whenever it's someone else, they're never around.

When Im in a new area, I generally wont go more than 10 above. When Im in an area Im more familiar with (including the spots cops tend to sit) I go a little above that. It also highly depends on the traffic around you. If everybody is going 20 over then you should be fine, if everybody is going the limit youd stick out like a sore thumb speeding.

yeah i always try to follow traffic flow but then one time a cop just pics me out of the whole crowd and decides to give me the ticket even though other people were going faster...

I go at least 160.

In the l.i.e. and the southern state i do 60-65....on the belt parkway its fair game....and on highways and interstates im not familiar with i do 5 over speed limit....unless someone tries to test....then all hell breaks loose....i hate backing down because of speed limits

When i lived back in NY and would drive the Tri-State areas, I wouldn't push my luck more then 5-10 over...

but that was about 6 years ago, i drive those areas now and feel like im driving super slow since everyone out here does 80+...

Lemers 04-21-2011 08:26 PM

I live where the highway gets 80 MPH. So +10 is pretty speedy

chuckd05 04-21-2011 09:09 PM

Sunrise highways average speed going out east Id say for every car on the road is at least 70 which is 15 over... LIE is a little slower but id say every car on the road goes 10 over here on Long island... I cruise at no more than 72 normally since In my theory its a speed where a guy with radar will wait for the guy going 75+ ...

but going out east on sunrise traffic routinely moves at 80 mph

I flow with traffic most of the time. I don't like being stuck in a big pack, though.

Get a 9500ix and gun it LOL! I usually find myself 10 -15 over the PSL.

You guys with Zs or me in my STi I usually go about 10-15 over. In my Caddy anything is fair game, it just doesn't attract the cops like the more sporty cars. I love my sleeper CTS-V :)

Yea, a radar detector does give a bit of insurance, especially when passing someone where you may briefly go way over the limit.

The only thing I noticed is that for a radar to truely be effective, you have to know what band the local police are using. For instance, around me, the state troopers all use Ka band, so I've come to treat X-bands as falses. In NYC however, I noticed cops where using X. So don't expect to get a radar and think you are truely safe. At best it is a "third eye". You still need to rely on common sense and good judgement.

When you drive in traffic, watch the people in front of you. If you see lots of brake lights randomly lighting up, it's probably a cop.

im already running a radar. i have a v1. from what i've read in ny, they mostly use laser, ka, and k no x unless its upstate or something. but i still feel unsafe sometimes speeding even with the radar. need a laser jammer for some more security haha

I rarely do more than +10
