:tiphat:

Hate to break it to you, but Arnold is no meteorologist.

National Weather Service forecasters will forecast "isolated" thunderstorms when they are pretty certain that storms are going to form, but only expect them to affect about 10% of the area. In other words, 90% of the area won't get wet.

Not the exact definition, but it has nothing to do with forming over water.

You're welcome. :bowrofl:

Econ 06-01-2011 12:35 PM

ok, now this is getting a little overwhelming.

good info kielbasa

AlphaSnacks 06-01-2011 12:41 PM

What Kielbasa said was true, but for all of last week, every isolated storm was north of us and barely any even made a blip on the radars.

Scattered are more likely to just affect 10% of an area, where as isolated storms normally never even happen.

For example, there is a storm cloud to the west of us now, heading east. It's track right now shows it'll cut through the Long Island sound/Atlantic Ocean and possibly clip southern Connecticut. That's what I meant by isolated showers usually end up over water. If the clouds look like they have a chance of raining over NY (but are more on track to north or south of us), I've noticed that weather reports will say isolated.

If there are a few scattered clouds directly on path to us, then the reports will say scattered storms.

AlphaSnacks 06-01-2011 12:47 PM

This is worrying though. There are scattered predictions, which have turned to a tornado warning?

By the way I was just playing around Arnold! I just dont want Econ to erroneously take something off his bucket list haha

Hmmm...hourly forecast been downgraded. Now says isolated at 9PM. Looks like nothing will happen.

Hoping skies remain this clear.

kielbasa16 06-01-2011 02:11 PM

My buddy sent this to me a few weeks ago when we had a crazy *** storm.

AlphaSnacks 06-01-2011 02:49 PM

Oh from last year? Yeah that was scary. My neighborhood was right in the eye of it.

It was absolute insanity. So much damage. Destroyed cars. Houses. Parks. Trees. Stores. Never thought I'd see that kind of chaos in NYC.

AlphaSnacks 06-01-2011 02:56 PM

Looks like some rain will come now and none after 6PM.

The meet should be good!

toxik 06-01-2011 04:22 PM

i might come by

AlphaSnacks 06-01-2011 05:10 PM

Cool, brah.

Looks like all of the clouds have passed Great Neck. There may be some showers out in LI, but they're all passing quickly.

The meet is good to go.

Very nice picture right there

Fun meet. But people seem to have gotten scared off by a non-existing tornado.

sorry guys, I got stuck working (just finished), hopefully see you all Sunday though.

maximadudeIIs 06-02-2011 07:31 AM

Stopped by at 8pm, said "nice car dude" to someone with a 370z roadster and left.

Didn't see any other cars there, did I miss something?

Thanks. I guess I should have stayed a bit.

Looking to see some nicely modded Z's.

i want to go real bad, however wont get out of work till around 6.

guess Great Neck it is for me.

maximadudeIIs 06-08-2011 08:01 PM

Was there for a bit after 8, then left.

I was the guy in the Vette, said "nice car" to the guy in the 911 Turbo and whoever was in the M3.

The long haired guy at Starbucks said the Z crowd comes later, I guess I missed this again!

AlphaSnacks 06-08-2011 10:34 PM

I'm confused. I got there around 8:10 and it was just me and Econ, then a few others came out, including another Corvette. There was a 911 Turbo and M3? Don't understand why people don't stick around for a little bit if they're the first to show.

maximadudeIIs 06-09-2011 08:09 AM

Left right after they did, which was around 8:05 or so.

If you saw a C6 on Northern Blvd. that was me leaving, traffic was slow.

I only saw Euro cars there. An Audi TT, BMW M3, and an older guy in a 911 Turbo who stopped by at Starbucks to get some coffee. Lot was empty by 8:05, I was the last one to leave.

AlphaSnacks 06-09-2011 12:38 PM

How weird. We must've missed you guys by a hair then. I usually avoid Northern and take the back road around the traffic.

maximadudeIIs 06-09-2011 02:01 PM

What time do you guys get out of work?
