[OFFICIAL] Discussion for the next new Nissan 400Z Z35?

I think we are getting a black floating roof. Can see it by the back glass of today’s teaser and the earlier teaser. http://www.the370z.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1599758186 http://www.the370z.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1599758186

Can't wait. It looks like the body shape/style will be similar to the 370Z which isn't a bad thing at all. I think the 370Z still has very nice exterior body styling even by today's standards for a sports car.

Looks like they pushed the wheels even further out to the corners of the body, maybe get improved handling on this Z?

I imagine they'll have improved just about everything. Even if it's by marginal amounts every aspect of the car can be improved in some way to compete against it's competitors.

The only thing slightly concerning to me from seeing this newest teaser, is that the middle console looks almost exactly the same as current 370Z. I hope they really updated the interior with more alcantara, leather, and less cheap plastic. It would be amazing if they had some carbon fiber option bits from the factory, but I'll keep dreaming on that one.

Noticing some other new details:

- Curving tails
- Chrome molding (seems to remain through all videos)
- Navi fin antenna

The 3rd thing you put a red box around is a wind deflector that goes across the back of the roof, not an antenna.

I'm quite interested to see what the side of the car will look like. Here's a screen grab from today's teaser:

Definitely proof this is an aggressive refresh moreso than a redesign. We shoulda gotten a decent shift knob in 2013. That said... an aggressive refresh is not necessarily a bad thing? Maybe they pushed the wheelbase forward or backward? Maybe extensive use of high tensile steel and newer tech chassis fittings can take 100llbs off the chassis?
New tech can make the infotainment area much lighter.?
Resttructuring the trunk can give us more storage space? Hoping for at least 11.5cu ft trunk.
Advanced suspension tuning can add up to .3 seconds of acceleration and improve lateral grip.
As stated before. Im praying they have an updated transmission for both the Z and Q60 upon release?

Overall i said in the past and ill say it again. The Z can get away with gradual refreshes over radical changes. But they need to stick to a 6 yr cycle. These cars may never sell over 10k units a yr and thats ok. We just need a respectable car.
Take lessons from the porsche 911 & corvette. The C4 C5 & C6 were essentially the same car with simple yet essential updates. Just dont make the interior quality mistakes chevy did.

I dont know if the stock Z will beat a supra? But thats ok. Its 10k cheaper and still going to be much faster than the z34. And lastly. Nissan built it!!! Not BMW. Or a subaru hybrid.

I trash Nissan when they eff up but i gotta give them respect when its deserved. N the Z is Nissan all the way!!

PS... thank God for the handbrake.

I noticed that too. I have mixed feelings - there are elements of the existing interior I don't mind they keep, but a few things badly need updating...

TBH, I hope they retain the same overall layout but with some basic changes that would make a Z perfect (for my tastes):
  • Replace the old infotainment unit with a with a state of the art TFT HD display (obviously give it AA/CP).
  • Get rid of the crappy LCD calculator display in the left gauge of the instrument cluster and replace it with a configurable TFT display that includes a digital speed readout.
  • Give the steering wheel reach adjustment in addition to rake.
  • Replace any 'satin silver' plastic trim pieces with *real* aluminium or high quality faux carbon fibre (real CF is probably too much to hope for).

Things I hope they keep but I fear they will replace:
  • Keep the real, analogue instrument cluster (with real tacho and speedo) that moves up and down with the wheel. Not a fan of fully digital instrument clusters, they lack soul.
  • Keep the three centre round pod gauges on the dashboard (but maybe make them configurable TFTs). Because they are now iconic and still cool IMO.
  • Keep the infotainment screen down below the centre pod gauges. The 'tablet stuck on the dashboard' infotainment fadis junk and will age a car's interior badly.
  • Keep the suede/alcantara arm rest and door pads on the door cards, but yes, extend it to cover more surfaces that are currently just plastic.

Do all that and I'll be a happy camper. Not too much needs changing, just a few details to bring it up to date.
