That being said...I'm SOLD! I love my 370Z Nismo in and out and this new Z is more of a refresh than a redesign which is perfect for me. This is all subjective, but I'm so glad to look forward to this. To me, the new Z is basically the current Z that pays respect to the older models yet has a modern touch. It's perfect!

Yes I absolutely expected specs, and how they made it a better driver's car than the previous model.

NissanFreak81 09-15-2020 08:52 PM

Like everything except that square front. Hopefully they fix that.

https://www.caranddriver.com/photos/...ealed-gallery/

Seeing this car at different angles helped reveal a few things. Hips aren't as washed out as I first perceived. I get this is more Z32 and S30 inspired, but I'll miss the exaggeration of the leading edge of our rear wheels wells. This does have a nice transition. It's just different. The rear quarter is so far my favorite segment.

I feel like the trailing edge of the front fender/wheel well is missing, though. It's a little too straight looking, but I get again the point that it's trying to capture a different generation of Z than ours.

Biggest problem with the nose imo is the grill is too vertical and tall at the same time.

Tailights seem too much of a modern retro pony car move. Not bad, but feel like it was just done for token sake.

Would've been nice if the plane view of the roof tapered more at the rear. Maybe a little too wide/flat for my tastes. Hard to tell if the "katana" accents and contrast coloring are just making it appear so for now.

It's honestly nice. There is some coherent design language but I think much of my underwhelmed impression was just being fixated on imagining going further in same the direction as the Z34. It's just a different direction here. Really only thing I don't like is the grill cutout + angle.

I realize I'm a Z34 owner on a Z34 forum, and I do get critical of people just having low self esteem that they're progressing into being a "past generation" and therefore retro grouches....but I am clinging onto how the Z34 had certain exaggerations and apart from roofline, it kinda wasn't following any rules with the lineage and more pushed to be itself. The Nismo V1 will stay a very good looking car for like, ever imo.

And I feel like that's the argument against having this upcoming model draw backwards with inspiration: the Z32 was trying to do the opposite - be different.

I like it. Expect some evolution in the interim. Will be keen to see and test soonest upon release. Im glad very, that Nissan are continuing the line among a sea of boxes with no soul and under utilized trucks that are an eye-sore. Happy to see new sportscars!!!!!! :driving:

TreeSemdyZee 09-15-2020 08:55 PM

If the guesstimates that i’ve read on pricing are correct, I definitely won’t be buying a new one.

NecioVato 09-15-2020 08:56 PM

The side profile though - that is money - reminds of a Jag coupe but like everyone else here, the front grill and the rear lighting is just 'meh'. I'm hoping after a few years on the market - they will produce a body kit from factory that will really make it look great. The digital dash - makes me wonder if the hydraulic steering is going 'bye bye' but overall - I'm happy.

Do I think this is as good looking as the current Supra - no I don't but....it's what we are asking for - a refresh that is similar to our current Z but offers a twin turbo setup. And like others have said - if it shares a lot of the same parts as the current Z - then this will be a tuners dream and the fact that we are KEEPING a stick along with having an ENGINE that is made from Nissan - there are some pluses here.

Regardless I am wondering - HP, price and are we/can we add a spoiler from factory??

takemorepills 09-15-2020 09:05 PM

I like it!

I agree about the rectangular front grill, but it's just a nose cone, so will be easy for different designs to appear from Nissan or aftermarket. Looks almost like a base model to me.

I feel like the Infiniti Sports Exhaust on my Q60 would bolt right up to this new Z. As has been said, probably a FM chassis. That's OK by me.

Interior is hugely improved.

I'm no Nissan "fan-boy", but Nissan just punted Toyota here. Big Time.
I mean, heck Nissan made their own car and even put a 6MT in it. I give Nissan respect.
Even though they ruined the Gen 2 Titan and use CVTs too much, oh and Brie Larson better not do any ads for the new Z

If not I still have my 70 240z ;)

I love everything but the too square grill. Interior looks great. Hope the keep the black roof.

I must have the NISMO version please. The original drawing was awesome. It was in the Nissan video on Youtube. It was a matt gray drawing.

I think the front needs a little work including the headlights. So far I'm liking the rear portion. I think it's a "love it" or "hate it" kind of situation in the rear. I kind of like that area and the taillights.

http://www.the370z.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1600222693
Side profile gives off 370z vibe. I actually find top half very identical to 370z. The interior is nice. I think I'll be totally fine with it. I'm assuming it's gonna be the SRM 6 speed.

The front end is a tough one. I absolutely hate the headlights. The headlights not only look terrible, it makes the whole front end look meh. If Nissan can fix the headlights and revamp the front end, I personally think it's pretty awesome.

Who does a reveal and only talks about design cues and "heritage"? Does not even talk about what enthusuast should look forward to? Ok, they said 6 spd manual but that's it. Didn't even pop the hood. I can tell the designer tried to squeeze the z33 in. Better yet, forced it in. This reveal was a downer.

1/4atatime 09-15-2020 09:22 PM

few things I noticed lots of the same stuff from the 370z door handles, speakers, center arm rest portion, same steering wheel turn signal/light stalks, same or very similar exhaust as the q60/50. Looks like the same brakes as the q60 black edition, same interior light dome as the 370z. Redline is 7000rpm (red sport is 6,800) boost gauge goes to 20psi.

UNKNOWN_370 09-15-2020 09:23 PM

Front end is controversial.
The rear end is unique and kool
The side looks amazing.
The dash is ehh?
The console is nice...
Thank God they left the gauges
Thank God for handbrake!
Those wheels are sick.
That roofline is dopeness.

Hoping hips are added to Nismo!
Hoping for better looking mirrors.
Hoping they redesign the front end.
I dunno how I feel about the headlights.

Can't wait to test drive!!!

The headlights need to be larger. They are small throwing the look off.

I know there's not much spec available and i'm sure you guys saw this , but I was thinking -- what width wheels do you think it'll come with? 9.5" and 10.5"?

I honestly like the wheels on the prototype. Wheel width matter for those who autoxes. I hope Nissan will release the specs soon ..

I agree with you on every point; and I agree with you on the test drive although we both know - we'll have to wait at least 2yrs for it to be out so we can test drive a USED one - bc we all know Nissan dealers won't allow for any test drives - they will treat this the way Honda dealers treat the CTR.

Nissan if you are listening: 300HP VR30DDTT, 6MT, $40000 or less to start.

Pretty please :tup::tiphat::excited:

goeagles11 09-15-2020 09:50 PM

Ok - I don't think yellow is the right color for an unveil...really disappointed they went with that.

The grill is just lazy and absolutely a no go. The Q60 has a massive grill done right, I don't know why this one looks so out of place. It's too sharp edged, and even Alfonso glossed over it as if the grill was an after thought in the reveal event.

"The grill is not an artificial element, it is a result of the things around it". Sounds like an excuse for a lazy design.

The rear has potential, would really need to see it in another color to make a determination.

The interior is a 10/10. Overall...my hype didn't increase, but glad this thing is legit.

Real mechanical diff. Viscous diff is one of the huge drawbacks of Nissan 370z. I remember on summer day, 370Z diff would turn in to open diff during a autox run.. I really hope Nissan puts a nice diff in there. If not, it's gonna be tough to sell as cheaper cars like twin comes with mechanical diff.

Torsional Diff like a Wavetrac would be great with no drawbacks like a clutch diff. I do like my OS Giken a lot though.

Something like a low maintenance Wavetrac will do. :driving:

I'm hoping the wheel wells will be like the 370. Huge, to fit big meats.

Nope, no, nada. At this point it wouldn't make any short list for me. There isn't a single picture from the 23 on Car and Driver's gallery that make me like this car. Hoping a different color is what I'm needing and/or to see it in person.

Agreed.... the overall shape from a distance is more of a car that's going to blend in... I don't know... would have to see in person. And agreed.... Nissan just cannot do headlights for some reason.

takemorepills 09-15-2020 10:13 PM

After looking at the interior pics, I saw:
Turbo boost gauge and Turbo impeller speed gauge. This tells me it is the 400HP 3.0TT as on the Q60 the 400HP Red Sport has turbine speed sensors, the 300HP 3.0TT doesn't.

I saw the typical Nissan key fob thing (lower left of steering wheel), same as my Q60. The "Proto" is very likely a fully functioning chassis.

RicerX 09-15-2020 10:21 PM

If you've been around more well executed digital gauge clusters (Audi digital cockpit comes to mind), you're probably suspicious Nissan sourced Fisher Price's "My First Digital Gauge Cluster" for this prototype.

Otherwise, this car is a solid starting point. Was hoping to learn more, but it was clear Cuban-Fabio wasn't going to do more than marketing speak after about 5 minutes of "heritage" and "design" so I muted it and went to look for pictures elsewhere.

I'll keep my eye out.

sunkist350z 09-15-2020 10:22 PM

Pretty interesting on how the concept of the z35, I actually like the first rendering of the first picture in red.

WONDERFUL eye dude. I didn't catch that.

Zoren 370 09-15-2020 10:25 PM

The front grill and headlights are :facepalm:

My 10 year old could pen that rectangular front grill in 2 sec cant believe took them 10 years to figure out a rectangular front grill and lazy looking eyes.

I’ say excellent on the side and rear look, the Interior kinda still eiffy.

I wish they change the front and eyes in the actual final design.....It looks sleepy and lazy...maybe the engine and handling performance will change all that I hope.

vtec to vvel 09-15-2020 10:46 PM

To each their own.

I personally think it's ugly, and makes me appreciate my 370Z that much more. This proto just doesn't flow and looks forced, for lack of better words. Despite having years to prepare, it seems as if the proto was put together half-@$$ed and at the last minute. I do like the wheels though. The front reminds me of a variation of an s2k, and the proportions just don't seem right between the front and the back when looking from the side (too long of a nose and too short of an @$$). Car doesn't look aggressive and looks like it's smiling (picture teeth where the grill is).

Carlos Ghosn is probably laughing his @$$ off right now looking at this concept.

OTW Z-Boy 09-15-2020 10:48 PM

Everything new is wonderful... let’s keep that in mind during these times ;)

Here’s my dilemma, I am very fortunate to have a Nismo Z and a RedSport 400 Q50 essentially my draw to this is that’s it’s the dream mash up between the 2. All the benefits of the Z chassis and manual trans but the power plant of the 3.0t VR tuned by Seb this thing is more than alright ;)

But....

I agree with most of you the front end is FUGLY. Side profile pretty badass. Rear is screaming for that duckbill and the mutant radioactive neon glow is blinding us from all that juicy carbon from the diffuser.

Interior that screen behind the steering wheel better actually do something more than just report the news. The gauge cluster in the Z34 and previous models is iconic. Not gonna lie that’s a bummer for me. Infotainment system hopefully meets at least a B average based on the dark ages we’ve been in (that goes for both Nissan brands frankly).

We shall see, already starting to see the fun with photoshop out there and that’s exciting....

Okay so one issue I have here, is with which lens focal length they chose to use during most of this.

I'm lost on why people are OBSESSED with refusing to use something in the sweet spot of 100-200mm for vehicle photography? It's like every car commercial has some special rule where they HAVE to use a wide angle lens from 16-50mm...

Wider angles make just about every vehicle look stupid... This is why you're stuck waiting until seeing something in person and then your'e saying: "oh...that's not so bad... or Oh wow!! looks amazing..."

Honestly I thought the C8 looked HORRIBLE In photographs, and then have now seen a few in person and not so bad/even great at some angles.

Lets hope the same for the new Z.

Now I think we're on to something here.. courtesy of reddit..

The Proto color is dreadful and definitely hides the lines. Not to mention the lighting in the livestream didn't help either. However, what also helps with that blocky front end is either getting rid of or changing the bottom lip color to black.
