What do we know about the VR30?

So what do we know about this engine from its use in Infiniti? Reliable? Any known issues? Any known limitations? Tunability? Moddability? Aftermarket support?

Theses guys should know. https://www.infinitiq50.org/

Wow, threads on replaced engines and turbos. That's not encouraging.

Engine seems reliable and holding 550WTQ pretty well, people making 6-650wtq without much issue (so far)
Transmission can hold 500WTQ without much concern, but starts getting questionable beyond that.
Turbos for the most part are fine, but from an “acceptable” failure rate it is concerning. And not easy/cheap to replace.

Huge aftermarket for just about every sort of modification you can think/need.

With FBO, HPFP, LPFP, Injectors and E85 stock turbos are maxing in the 5-550 WTQ with identical WHP.

A few aftermarket turbo options, and at least 1-2 in the works. Pure stage 2s can get about 600wtq/650whp.

Another open deck block. The platforms only hope is AMS and it’s willingness to push the envelope. They already have a LA sleeved 1000hp engine program in the works and hopefully a stand-alone program. If that fails it will be Another loop of follow the leader of failures to make big power hold.

Turbo failure is expected especially after boltons and tune as you many of these owners either come from the HR/VHR high revving world. VR turbos just wont keep up. You then have limitations of the direct injection system.

Many of the failures I believe are due to failing turbos without the knowledge of the owner and continued beating. There's only so much ECUTEK can soften to prevent it from blowing but many times doesnt happen fast enough or lack of owner insight.

After seeing the one that did 900whp on stock coolers I was surprised the coolers handled the job after upgrades to it's cooling system.

More will be learned and revealed in the future however the true savior for the VR will be the new Z. Hopefully it's weaknesses were addressed in this model.

I had a full build Q50 almost 2k posts on Q50 forum.
The turbo failure is over hyped. It is definitely much much higher than it should be.
Most are actually not tuned or modded although this pool is obviously larger than the tuned/modded group but those seem to have minimal impact or cause.
A lot of these owners at least active ones on the forum aren’t from VQ platform, and most of them mistakenly even think you’re supposed to short shift before 6k rpm.

Drop bear has come out with a manifold to allow port injection.
But 1700CC direct injection injectors can push a lot of power, with DI you can safely run over .5 leaner AFR. With the Spool fx-180 HPFP and 1700cc injectors you have the fuel for some crazy power. Theres a pure stage 2 build that broke 700whp w/ 600wtq+ I believe he’s on stock block too.

All I know is....
When I had my Q60 at the Infiniti dealer for maintenance, there was a Q50 on the lift next to it with it's entire drivetrain removed, for turbo issues.

Doesn't give me a warm-fuzzy. And Nissan is FAMOUS for doing jack **** about ongoing issues.

However, I am still buying a new Z!

So the VQ37 wants an aftermarket oil cooler if you're hitting the track/driving aggressively.... and runs from 220-240 degrees from what I've read on many posts on here.

However:

The VR30 looks to run 245-260 degrees (see end of each track session):

The video is in 4k, so I did a few screen shots and zoomed in on the temps... I'm wondering if the new Z will also need an aftermarket oil cooler, or, for whatever reason this higher temp range is fine?
