If I have the steering lock failure will interior lights still come on?

My 370z would not start this morning. It's a 2013 and approx 6 months old.

I had noticed the key light come on for the past few days but did not check to see what it meant. I tried replacing the key fob battery as well but this did not help. The push-button stays in the LOCK position and will not move to ACC.

I have noticed that the interior lights do not come on, nor do the headlights & I'm unable to use the powerlocks.

So my question is if I have the steering lock failure are the interior lights & headlights unable to be turned on or is this just a battery issue?

2013's dont use the steering lock.

did you recently have a stereo installed? it's possible your rf antenna is disconnected under the center console on the driver side.

As kenchan said, you don't have a steering lock. Does anything electrical work? If not, I suspect a dead battery. A cheap voltmeter will tell.

Edit: Try putting the fob in the "fobgina." If car starts working, check the fob battery. Or kenchan's antenna suggestion.

Yes I tried putting the fob into the fobgina and the pushbutton still won't go past LOCK nor would the car start.

I believe it is a battery issue because the powerlocks don't work, nor do any of the interior lights or headlights. I'm just surprised the battery is dead after only 6 months of usage. I'll test it with a multimeter when I get home.

yah, i charge your battery and retry.

if that doesnt work check either the clutch(MT) or brake (AT) switch. wheee! had a thread on this. if your switch is dirty or just faulty your car wont start.

If the battery is dead/low then check voltage while car is running. Should have about 14-1/2 volts. If less, then you may have a charging system problem. If charging volts are OK, then you may have a parasitic load, possibly from a mod, or the battery is bad. Most places that sell batteries will check yours for free.

Thanks. What should it read if the car is not running since I'm unable to start the car?

It should read close to 13 volts if fully charged. IIRC, 13.2 V for a perfect, 6-cell lead-acid battery. 12 V (maybe less) should let the car turn on.

Edit: If V is low, try using a battery charger to get the car running so you can do more troubleshooting.

how much driving do you do, op? it's possible your car and battery is fine (well, maybe not anymore if drained...),
but you're driving short distances or not driving frequently enough to allow the alternator to charge the battery.

for those situations you should try the batterytender. you can get them from amazon
for like 25. it's a battery manager you plug in during the week. also check your battery water levels for
preventative maintenance.

Lionheart, did you find out what was going on with your car? I think I am experiencing a similar issue on my 2011.
