Warranty
 
If you track your car does it void or affect your warranty in any way?

My camber appears to be skewed so my back left tire is heavily worn and even has holes in it but only on the inside of the tire. Right is perfect.

I have tracked the car a few times, should they fix the issue regardless (will they even be able to tell) and replace the tire still, or is it considered my fault?

sorry if what im trying to say seems choppy its late and i'm exhausted, excuse general stupidity.

I had new Integra that I leased back in 2000. I installed DC 4-1 header, AEM CAI and a catback Greddy muffler. One day, unfortunately, a tiny rock hit the fins of the radiator, radiator leaked slowly. I took it to the Acura dealer and put up a petty scene when the service guy popped my hood and shook his head, saying something like, "we can't honor the warranty, I see you installed aftermarket parts on your car." I got mad and said something like, "I know what you guys do to juice people..." The service guy was calm.

I learned my lesson. I used a $3 solution of radiator leak powder from Kragen and it worked fine. I returned the car in the same condition without penalties.

The Warranty does not cover failure due to abuse or negligence. Your buying a street car not a GTR.

IMO.
If you did open lapping or timed events (auto-X or Drag), it will be a more difficult fight. If you did a "structured" HPDE, then you have a better (but not 100% certain) stance.

I don't remember seeing anything in the manual that said not to drive if off-road. But timed events can be called competition and that is always viewed differently.

You're not obligated to say anything about how you drove the car. Just take it to the dealer and say "look what happened." They'll repair it under warranty. Never volunteer information you believe would give them a way out.

As for track vs autocross vs HPDE. From an insurance standpoint, any timed or racing events are NOT covered. However, I called my insurance company before a HPDE event and they insisted they were HAPPY I was doing the event with my car as it would make me a better driver. They even said that they would have given me a discount for having done the HPDE if I lived in an appropriate state (some are different than others). Dealers can't stop you from taking your car to non-competition, educational driving events. HPDE should be fine, but I would still just say that you've been driving on the roads and then noticed the tire problem.

Be careful out there if you're doing timed events. There has been some instances where an OEM manufacturer has their own people attending these events. That's how some guy in a stock EVO got his warrenty voided. They some how tracked either the VIN or the plate number and he recieved a letter in the mail stating that his warrenty was voided due to him tracking the car. Pretty sad indeed :shakes head:

Wtf is the matter with people. It's no wonder car manufacturers are skeptical about warranty claims. And can you blame them with some of the posts in here? If the rock had hit your windshield, should the warranty cover that also? And the tire wore out through your own doing. What makes you think Nissan or the tire mfg should take responsibility and pay for a new tire?

:iagree: Committing fraud at the service writers desk just increases the costs and hassles for all of us..

If the tire wore out unevently or prematurely during normal driving he would very much have a claim. We could even have a class action lawsuit. But since that's not the case we will have to wait and see what's actually wrong with Z's and how bad is it. Some of you must be like me and think the purchase was too good to be true and you're waiting for something to go very wrong with it every day.

As I said the camber is skew so the tires worn unevenly and when I said tracked, i've taken it to the drag strip once, and did one time attack. Other than that yes I do drive somewhat aggresively (which is to almost be expected when buying this car)

If the camber is out of alignment and he didn't manipulate it himself, it's not fraud to take it to the dealer for warranty repair. Further, whether he tracked the car or not, a misaligned wheel/axle will fry a tire. It could easily happen while street driving and this sounds like the case for DinoJ.

No one is suggesting DinoJ commit fraud. Taking the car in for warranty work doesn't require he disclose every condition under which he's ever driven his car. Massively modifying a car and then removing the mods to make the car stock for a warranty repair is fraud. Taking a stock car to the dealer for a repair having done one day on the drag strip is not. If it was, I suppose any Z owner who took their car to the track EVER should then send Nissan a letter that voluntarily discloses their decision to void their own warranty.

Read your tire warranty(page 16-17)...These issues and causes (alignment) are clearly NOT covered per that document. Just sayin.... Chunked tires (which he seems to describe), are clearly the result of track use. You might be amazed at what is spelled out in writing and what the owner must assume responsibility for....(this includes premature wear, "wheel spinning" and any racing or competitive use.)

Oh, and just a FYI, Tires are not covered by the Nissan Warranty. The warranty is administered by B.F. Goodrich through their dealer network..

:iagree: Point Made! If you do some Mods and track your car don't take it the dealer and tell them it's broke and expect them to fix it. Let us not forget the Dealer sold you a stock sport looking car not a Gtr,m5, ferrari, lambo just name a few. Im sticking to the original poster question.
