shifter won't go into gear, even when car turned off

I was driving last week while trying to shift into another gear, and I heard a pretty bad grind noise and right after that I was unable to shift into any other gear, it was stuck in neutral.

I've taken it to Nissan, where they advised my I should replace the transmission all together. (3k) 2k for new trans and 1k for labor

I've also taken it to Aamco where they said I should have it taken appart and have the parts replaced. My only concern is if I needed a new transmission it would be the labor + a new transmission for this (2k for all labor)

1. I have a 6 speed manual without rev limiter
2. I had oil, so thats not the problem
3. I had a new clutch installed 15k miles ago.
4. I have 65k total miles

Anybody know what I should do, or if I should take it to another shop?

Definitely not AAMCO.
Buy a used one on eBay, have a shop install it

You can call my boys at Toy Shop in Torrance. Talk to Eric, say "Andrew with the blue 370Z sent you)

You can't put a price on help like this.
I always feel like unless you have an inside line, you'll get screwed when it comes to transmissions.

In this case I would have the dealer do it and give me warranty for the parts and labor.

1 year warranty isn't worth $3000 IMO

You can get warranty from transmission shop too

tranny shouldn't break to begin with on a newish car. i would think if they did the replacement correctly the first year would give tattletale signs if the work was shoddy.

get if fixed before the yr is up.

its not like the op has other alternatives handy..if he did, probably wont post here, rather post at the wat did you do to your z today (on topic only).

I guesssssss, but I'd rather eBay another OEM one and just swap it.

I did look on eBay and there are a lot less than I expected for a lot more expensive that I would've thought ($900-1000 shipped). G37 transmission $650-$1000 shipped. I'm sure you can lowball them more too
