Fire!!!! My nismo is on fire!!!! Help!!

Last night after installing the new ETI boxes from AEM for their dual intakes I reset the ecu and went for a drive...bout an hour later I returned home with a stupid smile on my face. My 2012 Nismo was running great. I went 8nside the house and bout 30-45 min llater my freaking car was on fire......after putting the fire out I was looking at the car and itlooks to have started from the passenger tail light from there it followed the wiring along the passenger side toward the battery. It's disheartening. ....

My question is obviously its a short, but will my audio system (sub, amp, head unit) cause Nissan to automatically void my warranty and stick me with the repair bill????

What should I do? Help?

Did you do the install your self?

SS_Firehawk 07-04-2013 12:22 AM

holy crap that sucks! sorry to hear. I would def put the stock audio system in there. Too easy to point the blame on you audio.

Glad it wasn't the ETI boxes, I have AEM's for sale and that would have just killed any chances of someone buying them ROFL!

wow....!

holy ****! I knew Nimos were hot but damn! Well at least no one got hurt. I would pull everything aftermarket and file with insurance.

Ouch I'm sorry to hear. The dealer will generally do anything to avoid going through a warranty claim procedure, and an aftermarket item they can relate to will be their ticket out.

Go back to stock. Or go through insurance. I will switch everything over and drag it into the dealership.

You would be lucky if they fixed it under warranty

Good luck

I thought so. I've had the car for 6 mo. I put close to 4 stacks in 3 months. Just had everything working beautifully. Right b4 the fire I stomped a Camaro zl1 and my brothers M5... And I'm even in the process of getting the GTM 18g turnkey. Freak, freaking, freak......

I think I'm jinxed w/ nismos. Had a 08 350 Nismo, was bumped into during wet road conditions spun out, did a couple of 360's and hit the middle divider twice. With the front and the rear, it was a textbook pit maneuver and I would've told the guy that , only he didn't stop. it took 2 hours for a tow truck to stop come get me Casa passing by never stop sitting in the rain buy myself, one man, One Nismo, all alone. But I digress, let's get back on track...

Now I understand about the electrical modifications I'm done and that I have to remove them. does that mean I also have to remove all of the engine mods also, the intakes, the pulleys, cat back exh., short shifter..... Everything or just the electrical mods..what if some of the mods were on the vehicle when I purchased it from a certified Nissan dealership? The Sony double din and the wiring for the amp was already there when I purchased her.
I remember that day like it was just a few months ago....freaking electrical short...

I'm just trying to cover my bases and not get f****d.

I would only worry about the electrical stuff but it depends on the dealership. They can void a warranty for almost anything.

that's some freak accident for sure. OP, I would leave whatever electrical was in the car when you bought from the dealer. also, performance mods won't have any connection with the electrical short so that should be fine to leave as well.
