U0164 Error code

I have a service engine soon light with an associated error code of u0164. I have seen a few posts concerning this which all say its a CAN communications error but I haven't seen any resolutions to the issue. The service manual seems to point to a communications error as well between the HVAC control module and the DTC. I have replaced the HVAC control module but the light has returned. My AC was working with no issues until recently, now it doesn't work all the time, sometimes it blows warm air but I think I hear the AC compressor click on. Anyone have any ideas of what to look at next? Its a 2009 Base model with 32K miles. Unfortunately the light came on about a week after the warranty expired based on time so if I take it to the dealer I will have to pay some $$$.

That is a timeout error for CAN communications. Check all CAN bus wiring between BCM, HVAC, and Combination Meter. If it's not wiring, it's probably a bad module.

Friend having the same problem. Did you ever get it fixed OP?

Could also be a blown fuse, I should think.

My friends car now has no communication to the HVAC controls, heated seats, cruise control, home link mirror, and outside temp reading is way off.

We tried swapping out the white box under the radio. We tried swapping out the face plate to the head unit. He installed a new rely behind the navi. He also changed all the 25 and 10 amp fuses in the fuse box under the steering wheel and both boxes in the engine bay. He did find some blown fuses in the engine bay boxes.

We are totally lost at this point. What could we be missing??

See if you can find out what was causing the fuses to blow -- that sounds like the source of the problem.

We tried plugging his radar detector into the home link mirror and must have cross the positive and negative. And ever since then he's had these problems.

Anyone?

Download the FSM (link in my sig) for CAN bus troubleshooting procedures. Eliminate parts of the system as being the problem and what you have left must be it. I'm guessing you have a bad BCM or HVAC module; maybe just a bad wire/connector.

Thanks I'll give it a try.

Check out the body control module? Just a thought. Its located down at the passengers right foot behid the plastic panel there. Everything in the dash basically plus in there.

Yea we will give that a look over. I have a few thing to try. I'll post back here if I have any luck or not. Thanks everyone.

I got this CEL, but I have a weird symptom.
My info gauge is in U.S. units. BUT my temp shows as Celsius...

Im getting this too now, I just replaced my HU so there might be something I messed up

Edit: nvm I cleared it

I was told this code doesn't clear by itself, so we have to clear the code or they also told me to disconnect the battery for a few mins. I'm seeing this error right now. The light came on when I was trying to write some computer code to pull data from the OB2 interface. I had this on while I turned the engine on. :( Terrible idea, probably introduced errors on the interface. So hopefully this reset works. I don't seem to be having any hvac issues.
