Found this in the 40th Anniversary Section (thanks to herZ and hiZ).

Just took these of mine in the parking lot at work. Definitely smoother leather and does not feel like rubber. Almost matches the texture of the shift boot.

Can't really tell by your picture, but I do not believe that the 40th are any different than any other 370.

Is it possible that the knob you had was just worn smooth compared to the newer knob?

Cmike2780 06-19-2013 01:53 PM

It's the same knob for all models. Maybe it's from a '13, but that knob looks right to me.

Sharkedd 06-19-2013 02:06 PM

I could see it maybe be smoother because its worn down, but the actual material feels different seems much more rubbery to me.

Chuck33079 06-19-2013 02:10 PM

That's odd. It's been so long since I had my OEM knob on I barely remember what it was like. I'll look tonight. It came off the day I bought the car, so it's still new.

When I had my CSC replaced they broke the shift knob and had to put a new one on. It looked like that, almost "puffy" looking.

Then after a couple months it was shiny again. I assume the hand oils and skin contact slowly buff it to a shine.

I found two other 370Z 40th's for sale not far from me, I am going today to check them out to compare how 5th gear feels when shifting and also look at the shifter knobs.

Chuck33079 06-20-2013 08:48 AM

I tracked down my oem knob. Feels exactly like you describe the new one. My guess is yours got worn down with use.

So I took my car to independent garage and had the owner test the shifting and he said it is not normal. He referred me to another Nissan Dealer who he has worked with in the past. I went there this morning met with the service manager / shop forman had him sit in my car and test the shifting he agreed with me that its not right.

He took the car and 45 minutes later he came out and we went for a drive, the car shifts perfectly now!!!!

There is no resistance on 5/6th any more and I also find that 1st and 2nd are smoother now also!!!

He said that the guide plate was not aligned properly, and also couldn't believe that my dealer would not repair it correctly.

So now I am left with some cosmetic damage on my console and all my wasted time back and forth to the original dealer. I think I am going to send them a registered letter giving them the chance to pay for their damages and incompetence and if they refuse then I will file claim in smalls claims court.

Glad to hear it's fixed now. Go after the first dealer for all the wasted time, damage and BS they put you through.

Mitco39 06-25-2013 11:00 AM

We called it! hahaha. Glad its fixed.

Just for future reference and anyone who checks this is in the future, you can also just go drive a new Z and since its new, the positioning of everything should be spot on.

Seems that in my area the dealers don't have the manual transmissions in stock, that was the problem. If the original dealer had one then that is what I would have done right away.

Good news is I got a call this afternoon from someone at corporate, apparently my case has been escalated to upper management and she is now investigating what happened at the dealer and asked me to fax her all documentation that I have.

Sharkedd 06-26-2013 11:22 AM

Just found out that the lady who called me yesterday is a executive assistant to Nissan Canada President: Christian Meunier

So I am hopeful now that she will investigate and this can all be resolved.

I think that means someone's *** is about to be thoroughly kicked.
