Cost of service

We went in to dealer and he said the 30,000 mile service on our 370 Z would cost around $700.00. Is this realistic?

From what I've heard, no, its not. Per the maintenance guide, below is what they do:

Replace engine oil and filter
❏ Replace engine air filter
❏ Replace in-cabin microfilter 2
❏ Rotate tires (except all 370Z)
❏ Inspect the following:
__ Automatic transmission fluid 3,5
__ eCVT fluid (HEV) 3,4
__ Axle & suspension parts
__ Brake lines & cables
__ Brake pads, rotors, drums &
linings
__ Cruise control vacuum hoses
__ CVT fluid (cube, Murano, Altima,
Altima Coupe, Maxima,
Rogue, Sentra and Versa)
__ Differential oil 1,3
__ Drive shaft boots
__ Exhaust system
__ Front suspension ball joints
__ Fuel lines/connections
__ Fuel tank vapor vent system hoses
__ Manual transmission oil 3
__ Propeller shaft (4WD/AWD/RWD)
__ Steering gear and linkage
__ Steering linkage ball joints
__ Transfer case oil (4WD/AWD) 3

I've not quite reached 30k myself, but I'm already reading everything to make sure I don't get screwed...$700 seems like alot of what is mostly "inspection".

We live in the west side of Phoenix. Has anyone any experience with a Nissan service dept. that they could help us with.

Lol $700.00 for that is a joke. Kind of like 2k for intakes. A lot of the info stated is inspection. You can do that yourself. You know what your car has been through. Pick the selected few and have the dealer do it. Like chg oil, diff oil, trans oil, etc etc. Unless you have the tools and a place to dispose of it. The air filer is cake. So is the cabin filter. check your tires throw in a Lucas fuel injector cleaner and call it a day. Also you can budget by purchasing parts elsewhere and having them put it in.

Check out the link below; it is actually in response to 15K mile maintenance, but it pretty much all applies to 30K as well. If you have a manual, I would recommend changing to synthetic (bring some Redline Mt-85 - 3qts - with you to the dealer to have them replace the transmission fluid). If you have an automatic, it is maintenance-free (per the manual). The in-cabin air-filter is about the only thing different from the 15K mile list - the dealer will probably charge $30+ for the filter and 1/2 hr labor for the damn thing. It's six screws to take of the glove compartment to install one, a great DIY.

15,000 Miles/12 months Scheduled Maintenance, what did you do?

Unless you have any issues with the check list in the linked post or you have a MT, just have the dealer do an oil change and be done with it if you don't want to spend the money. You can always ask them to check something specific for you. A good dealer shouldn't charge anything extra if you ask them to check easily accessible items while they're doing other work (i.e. an oil change) for you already.

I don't know about Australia, but not all Nissan dealer in the US are mod-adverse. It depends on how far you go with your mods, but warranty work shouldn't be a problem unless it's related to your aftermarket mod. And basic maintenance like oil change or other fluid changes definitely can be done by a dealer even if you have mods.

$700 for a glorified oil change service is ridiculous. My lifelong private mechanic will do the oil and filter changes and "inspections" for around $100.00, including supplies.

I just went in for the 60k Service at Pinnacle Nissan in Scottsdale-

They quoted me $750 for everything. I told em to shove it..

I already pay $100 there every couple months for my service.

I am probably just going to do things slowly. Brake fluids, trans fluid, etc..
One by one.

Everything else is perfect.

I believe the $700 includes replace manual transmission fluid and rear differential fluid, and a lot more compare to the 15k maintenance.
Make sure you asked the dealer and find out what is actually covered in the maintenance.
I am about to hit 30k and I was quoted for the similar price.
Also, I believe the Z does not come with in-cabin air filter and the dealer say they will deduct $100 for that.
Hope this will help.
