1 year maintenance.

Long story short . I go for my oil change at dealership and person
Taking care for my car tells me about this 1 year inspection
Estimate of 350$ including oil change . Something about reseting
Factory settings, idle time?.
Anyone of you guys done this ? What do you guys think ?
Also included was fluid top off etc

Kingbaby 12-17-2012 05:26 PM

sounds like legit BS...

maybe a new salesmen which knows nothing about anything

Waiz 12-17-2012 05:36 PM

lol there is no such thing as a 1 year service

I would not go back to that dealer especially for oil changes, I only go to dealers for warranty work and nothing else!

SouthArk370Z 12-17-2012 05:46 PM

If my dealer did an annual inspection, they didn't charge me for it. I'm assuming they did it during an oil/filter change, but maybe they didn't do one at all.

I'm not sure what all is invovled with a 1-yr inspection, but that sounds like an awful lot. If you assume $100/hr, that's 3.5 hours worth of eyeballing your car.

Other than a visual and kick the tires inspection, what do they plan on doing? If that doesn't include some parts, IMNSHO, they're trying to screw you.

Call another Nissan dealer and see what they charge for a 1-year inspection. If you get it done with an oil/filter change, they may do it for free. Edit: LOL Especially if there is no such thing as a 1-yr inspection as per Waizzz.

The manual is the cars bible. Thats your 1 year maintenance guide.

+1. Mine's over two years old, so I don't have a lot of incentive to look it up. :)

Forgot to mention that as well, there are service interval schedules that everyone should be following and would serve as a great resource to validate bogus maintenance suggestions.

Hmm sounds like bs to me too . So I wanted to ask here .
A part of that "1 year service" including cabin air filter for what pretty much
Is for ac . That alone was 100$? And well like I said he said it was to inspect fluid levels
Check brakes calibrate some things and reset ecu . Because " the ecu can forget orginal factory settings " . BTW oil change was 95$ ....and he said my tires seem worn lmao
Only have 4.9k miles on the z lol

They have to remove the glove box to get to it and, IIRC, the filter is ~$50. Should be a 15 minute job; 30 at most.

Let's see: radiator reservoir, brakes, battery, oil, washer fluid. If you're a good customer, they should do that much for free. Unless they are checking tranny and rearend levels, takes about five minutes. Three if you're in a hurry. Add 15 minutes or so if they check tranny/rear. If they remove the wheels to inspect the brakes, that will take some time; maybe 20 minutes to R&R if the mechanic is constipated that day. The inspection itself shouldn't take more than 2-3 minutes per corner.

That sounds like 100% pure BS to me. Of course it forgets factory settings - the engine is constantly re-tuning itself. You don't want the factory settings unless something isn't working right. If you do want the factory settings, just disconnect the battery and pump the brakes.

If that's for Nissan Ester oil, it's a bit on the high side. If it's for a "regular" synthetic or syn-blend, it sounds a lot high to me

 As far as the work being done I thought you were just getting overcharged a bit, at the very least least paying top dollar, but with the reset and tires stuff, I'd find another dealer.

2xtreme1 12-17-2012 10:06 PM

Oil was synthetic not the their ester oil .
Ester was like 28$ a qt lmao

Waiz 12-18-2012 12:10 PM

It's ok, dealers make more money off of people bringing their cars in for service nowadays then they do by actually selling cars

Thankfully you asked around since you were suspicious

oil and filter change, inspect tire wear and pressure, inspect all fluids you can see from the engine bay. that's all you really need to do.

dealers are there to make money from service. dont get raped. just follow the MANUFACTURER's maintenance schedule. i only follow the lightest schedule in the maintenance booklet since i only drive my Z on sunny days on the weekends, light traffic, hibernated in winter.

2xtreme1 12-18-2012 07:34 PM

My z is a weekend car too , so yeah i follow the maintenance guide .
