Help!: New 2013 Nismo - Gauges Malfunctioning? - (Oil Temp/Battery Voltage/ Clock)

So.....i have a 2013 Nismo with less than 1000miles on it....

Go to work this morning and all is great. Then I get in my car to drive home and start the car, and try to figure out what time it is and see this :(

I tried restarting the car a few times. Tried driving it around and then starting it again. Only to it still looking like this at night.

The pics are what the gauges look like in the center dash when the ENGINE is ON. The gauges DO NOT swing beginning to end anymore, but the main speed cluster works just fine. Now all they do is randomly look like they are shaking/hesitating as they move around all over the place. I tried fiddling with the left side LCD settings with no luck.

I tried very hard to find similar issues searching through the forums but had little luck. I am very paranoid about this as I just ordered a brand new Alpine Double din and rear view camera. Now i am worried about installing it as dealerships might find a way to weasel their way to saying the aftermarket head unit is at fault. It sounds like either way I have to make a painful dealership visit, but figured it was worth asking for feedback and advice from everyone here! I greatly appreciate all the help in advance, as it will really help me sleep better at night!

Take it to the dealership... Not normal.

Trips 11-28-2012 08:53 PM

Like iceman 21_23 mentioned either do a ecu reset or have it checked out by the dealer since its under warranty.

LakeShow 11-28-2012 09:06 PM

Take to dealer, definitely not normal. I feel an ECU reset shall do the trick though;

ya that's what im leaning towards, i'm just worried as to what could have caused it, i guess i can only hope for the best!

jooonnn 11-29-2012 04:02 PM

Just got back from sitting at the dealership for a couple hours. They called Nissan and Nissan told them to check connections and reconnect them. Didn't work so Nissan is sending me a new gauge set to put in wooopty do lol

iceman21_23 11-30-2012 09:23 AM

eastwest2300 11-30-2012 03:29 PM

Damn, thats crazy.. wowww

jooonnn 11-30-2012 05:03 PM

i'm just hoping its a "defective gauges" problem....and not an electrical problem

dmhenderson 11-30-2012 06:36 PM

I can tell you that "electrical problems" with this car are not fun.

Waiz 11-30-2012 06:40 PM

Wow what a weird issue, might need to keep an eye on the 2013's in case Nissan switched part suppliers or something funky

Cmike2780 11-30-2012 07:05 PM

Never seen anything like that before. I'm thinking its the ecu, not the guages. The 13 Nismo rims look sweet!

Nut_N_Much 11-30-2012 07:12 PM

Beautiful car man.. Sorry the gauges are messed up.. Dealer will make it right..

My head unit comes in next week. Should I hold off on putting it in case dealer wants to blame fault or is that pretty unlikely/? Im hoping if it is an ecu issue that the new gauges show the same problem immediately.

New update: took the car in at 730am for my appointment since new gauges came in. I call them at 4pm and they said car won't be ready until next day because they have to take out the dashboard to install. Thoughts?

I believe they do have to take it out. If you haven't yet I would definitely not install the stereo until the gauge issue is resolved.

New update: they said they are putting the dash back in a second time, estimated to be finished late this afternoon. Unfortunatley i already put the stereo in but i took pics/videos of my fault gauges and then the package of my headunit in the same video stating this problem occured before i even ordered the head unit to hopefully cover my bases for any sly dealership problems. I just love how my dealership always says theyll call me and update me but it ends up being me having to call and remind them to gve me an update. When they answer they are always like "i was just about to call you!"

That's pretty much how it goes....either that or they finally remember at the end of the day when they still see your car in the parking lot.

Is it definitely the guages?

Just got the car back last night - guages work fine now. They had trouble and had to do it a couple times they said putting dash back on and off.

In doing so, they ****** the **** outta the shift knob. Literally looks like the leather knob was mauled by a rottweiler. Literally leather hanging off in pieces. They said they had to order a new knob because they had trouble getting the knob off when they took the dash off. Now the shifter sounds like theirs a tiny plastic piece moving/flying around inside when i shift. Pretty pissed. Also, they ghetto rigged my entire head unit back on, didnt plug the mic back in and all the RCA's are all wrong. They even let the wires hang out of the center panel pieces onto the floor.....and the panels weren't even pushed in all the way or set correctly. Also there were a few scratches near my Nismo Serial # on the interior plastic panel......there's no way i scratched that area before myself as i would have noticed those. I recorded videos of me at the dealership before i left showing all these in case they argue with my claims.

Side note is i think i'm gonna order a tommy kaira knob now! haha thoughts?

NissanGuy23 12-21-2012 02:36 PM

God thats just typical dealer crap...uugghhh.

They are idiots with the shift knob, there is this thing called a STRAP WRENCH for these types of things. And, the thing rattling around inside the knob is a metal ring, happens to some Z owners. If you take the knob off, with a strap wrench and not a faking pipe wrench, you'll see the ring

*they are replacing the knob right?

Just curious. What dealership have you been dealing with?

Morris Nissan. I mean they are definitely making a conscious effort to amend things so I am thankful for that
