For those that do low miles per year. Be sure to get oil temp at optimum levels and get rpms high occasionally. We all know short hop driving is not good.

I use PYB/Nissan Filter (Insane Moly levels) and change it at 3750 or earlier if my schedule forces me. I like changing the oil myself, I get under the car and really look at it. Mine is a DD in FL heat with many stop and go lights....in FL you spend a LOT of time at traffic lights. I realize I could use Synth tier 1 any brand but then I wouldn't get to change the oil as often!
I know, cheap thrill. |
Same here . I drive mine just for the sake of it not DD. Put 4k miles since April 17th.

Mobil 1, 5w-30, with a filtermag is the way to go.
|
Mobil 1, Wix or AC Delco filter, change at 5000 miles (as Nissan recommends).
|
I dont believe a larger oil filter is nec better. Use standard size purglolator.

i started using the K&N black can filter. car now sounds like a chevy ;)

Long story short: After reviewing the used oil analyses (UOA's) on my Z and those of others using various oils for daily driven stop-and-go VQ engines, I concluded around 4.25 - 4.5K was about ideal. Earlier changes suggested no benefits and later intervals pointed to very slight upticks in wear.
I think that value range is also roughly at the median of Nissan's two recommended intervals, which I'm guessing is unlikely to be a coincidence. All that in mind, a few hundred miles up or down will not make a difference of note. |
my Z has about 15k miles and 5th year... so about 3k miles a year. which is a once a year change for me. :D

Yeah, I'm a 3700-3500 kinda guy. I just change it to be able to mess with it! I live 3-4 miles from work so......in FL heat stop and go I fall into the severe category, although I always get up to 180 before I get to work....

[QUOTE= ... On newly installed engines Nissan recommends you forcefully pump one quart of oil into the filling hole, then turn the car on ASAP.
[/QUOTE] Wouldn't that only prelube the left cylinder bank's valvetrain? |
