Need advice about possible noise issue...

hello all.....just recently purchased a 09 370z w/ 51k miles on it and even though the previous owner did reg scheduled maintanence i believe there is and issue w/ either my clutch, flywheel, or possibly even my tranny.....when it is idling n the clutch is released there is a rattling sound that occurs but u press clutch in it stops....it will also do it when ur cruising in 1st and u press in the clutch....and when i shut off the car it rattles.....i plan on taking it to fl in a week and i need to know if this is a big issue hopefully i before i take it to dealer and spend a butt load of money......and also would it b wise to even drive this car from nc to fl??....please if anyone can help id appreciate it!!!! THanks:tiphat:

can you post a recording/video of the sound?

could be normal transmission chatter, or something bad like a worn thowout bearing

Unless it's extremely loud, such as a throwout bearing, it's normal. Our clutches have a lot of rattle in them. Mine does.

Also, it's very good practice to depress the clutch when you shut the car down.

It's pretty much normal. Most g37/370z have it. If the car has an aftermarket clutch, it'll be more obvious. Nothing wrong.

My friend rest assure there is NOTHING wrong... its due to the dual plated clutch... (owned a 350Z since 2002 TRUST ME)

Just to prove my theory Shut your car off without pushing in the clutch, it will sound like marbles in a jar...
Then try shutting the car off with the clutch engaged... PRESTO NO noise :)

When you compress the clutch the plates dont bash together.

This is like the 50th Post i have cleared the owners concerns after running the above test.... AGAIN SLEEP WELL NO WORRIES ITS TOTALLY 100% normal!!

My car has 56k miles on it and has this same horrible noise. It unfortunately is normal. Nissan really should look into this! It is embarrassing.

thanks to all who have answered....at least by knowing that its "normal" that takes one worry off....will try to press clutch next time i shut it off n see if noise goes away.....but i agree nissan needs to look into that cuz it makes it sound crappy n my opinion....thanks again

Has anyone heard some of the horrible noises track cars make? Differential popping things like that... Be thankful we have a decent clutch, its a twin plate so its gonna make some noise as there are two metal plates resting next to each other..

Google Mitsubishi Evolution clutch issues... Those things blow out at 5K miles, the Z clutch is very strong and can take some serious abuse.

Simple solution to this "issue" just push in the clutch pedal when you shut it off.
