Went to dealer about airbag issue
They checked out the car and the woman said she got in the car and saw what I was talking about, but that the car wasn't throwing any codes.
She said that the passenger had to sit directly in the middle of the seat without sitting the on sides of the seat. My Fiancee said indian style in the seat yesterday however trying to make the light come on, but she couldn't do it. I have a feeling there will be more visits to the dealer in the future for this issue. |
I have the same issue.
I thought my fiance was too light (100lbs), but the light didnt go off when my buddy sat there either. |
Indian style?
What happens if she just sits normally/straight? It is common for airbag switches in many car models to *not* to activate if a smaller/lighter person sits in a non-standard way ( indian style, off to one side, etc), and with sport-style seats with higher side bolsters on the bottom cushion ( as is the case with the370z), it is even more sensitive to non-standard body positions. |

Indian Style? That is funny. What happens when she tries the punjabi style? :p
More than likely, the airbag sensor tripped up. The dealership will simply reset it, it is done under warranty. Try not to keep items under 10 lbs on your seats; that messes up with the sensor. |

I'm going to send an email to Nissan, or call them directly. |

Anyway... yeah it's not really an issue I like with my Fiancee in the car.
|
Wait, so you actually let your Fiancee out of the kitchen?
|
Stay on TOPIC!!
|
hummm.... the sensor does detect when to turn the SRS on or off. just leave it.
|
so sitting in the seat and the light just comes on for no reason is the way it's supposed to be?

I think it lights up like this: No weight: off Weight but too light: on (but indicates inactive) Adequate weight: off (active) |

If the OP takes his vehicle to the dealership, they will reset the sensor at no charge and under 30mn; unless of course any potential aftermarket setup caused the failure.

Passenger Airbag light
I have the same problem with a 120lb passenger in my 2011. I've not had it back to the dealer but I have a feeling I'll get the same response that Methodical4u got since it is an intermittent fault.
I also think I have experienced the ice mode brake problem which resulted in a collision. At least the insurance company was OK with CF hood and fenders instead of OEM. The collision was not hard enough to deploy my airbag (no passenger on board) but was hard enough to do $8k damage! |
hmm Methodical, so they didn't even try resetting the sensor? you stated they scanned for error codesbut did they say anything about resetting the sensor?
The only time I had issue with that sensor is when I was poking around in the car, took the center unit out, the light came up after I put everything together; I took it to the Owings Mills Nissan dealership. Upon scanning they indicated that the sensor had tripped up and generated a code. They reset it and I never had that light back up ever since. This issue should be pretty straightforward to resolve, it sucks that it's dragging like this. |
