Problem

Dont know if this is the right section, but I have a 2010 automatic 370z. I took her on the highway and i got on her a little bit. I was accelerating hard on the freeway, and i hear a loud Crack and POP and the car starts jerking. I pulll over to see the damage. Everything looks fine, engine turns on, but when i try to shift into Drive, Neutral, or Reverse, it makes loud grinding noises and wont move at all. anybody know what the damage could be? thanks in advance

Please edit your post of how fast you were going to say while you were driving on the freeway it suddenly made a ????

Now by the sounds of it? The transmission blew. Take it to the dealer and let us know how it went, and please don't tell them you were speeding.:shakes head:

Good Luck.

Do you have any idea how much this cost to replace, and do you know if my car will still be covered under waranty, if i have full bolt ons?

The tranny is a sealed unit and mods didn't contribute to its failure. So their are no warranty issue here. IMO

Depends on how long the dealer gets it. I'm pretty sure they don't stock in on premises.

A replacement 7AT is almost $5K installed. I hope for your sake that they warranty it.

is there any way they could tell that driving spiritedly caused the failure and void the warranty?

There is nothing in the warranty policy that forbids spirited driving. Provided that the transmission wasn't abused in some way it should be ok.

Lemers 05-15-2011 12:10 PM

the car is advertised to go over 150 mph and 0-60 un under 5 seconds so if Nissan voids the warranty for driving as advertised they have a lot a explaining to do to everyone who bought a Z.

do 370's have transmission problems like the GTR's. Because my car is relatively new and it seems like the tranny shouldnt have problems like this from accelerating hard a couple of times.

Let us all know how the dealer handles it...

Trips 05-15-2011 12:23 PM

To be honest the 7AT's have been very reliable, And issues have been rare not that they won't fail but pretty good up to now.

KaienZ34 05-15-2011 12:23 PM

09 is in no way NEW

Will do

Lemers 05-15-2011 12:28 PM

There were 09s left over late into 2010. So it could be only a year old and transmission problems within a year of a 60 month 100k powertrain warranty I'd call it new too.

well you insurance is already charging you for a 150 mph car and if you weren't going that speed then Nissan shouldn't be able to say that you were abusing the car.

KaienZ34 05-15-2011 01:01 PM

I ordered mine jan 09 came in march 09 i've got 5,563 miles, it still smells new but you will be able to order the 2012 soon. Not what i call new, just me though.

bloodo 05-15-2011 03:56 PM

I was wondering how did you shift when you say you were getting on her hard. It is an AT, so there is hardly any room for error like MT. For an AT to go out at 7k is very hard to believe.

I am pretty sure Z eliminator get on his AT hard more than everyone here, and his seems to hold up pretty well.

sucasa 05-15-2011 06:46 PM

I have an 7AT, and spirited driving is perfectly fine on mine. There are several unknowns about your situation:

1. Maintenance of car?
2. Aftermarket parts on your car?
3. Is this first time you encountered this?
4. Have you tracked it before?
5. What was the oil pressure during problem?

So, it's bit hard to any of us to give you an educated answer. Your best bet will be discuss it w/your dealer and hope for the best. Tranny will run around $5K, and it does seem very odd to have an 09' Z with 7K on the dial encounter this issue. The automatic from my personal experience and reading magazines are quite bulletproof.

Best of luck
