You don't say? I've never heard that before! Seriously this is a very old arguement and I'm amazed people are still making posts like this. You either love or hate extended warranties and EVERYBODY has had a different experience with them. I'll come back to this forum in 8 years when my warranty expires and let you know if I made my $1800 BACK.

Just got back from the dealer after canceling my extended warranty.
Initially paid $2190 for 84 mo./100,00 mi. They really tried to get me to not cancel but after 20 minutes of discussion it's now canceled.

But I'm kinda having cancelers remorse?

They said that it will cost me more to buy it again later and all third party extended warranties don't cover what the original extended warranty would have. Is this true?

@dwntwnall4u

I did my research when I bought the extended warranty. First I looked at a third party company i.e. Geico's extended warranty and compared it to Nissan Security Plus, and it was a no brainer.

Take a look at the following chart:

http://www.nissanextendedwarranty.co...erageChart.pdf

For the Gold-Preferred, take a look at what's covered.. Exactly, practically every major component, electrical, navigation,etc.. part on the car is warrantied.

When I went to Geico and asked to see a similar covered list, they refused to show it to me. That's when I went with Nissan's extended coverage. I got mine for 5yrs, 75,000 miles since I plan to keep it that long. Dealer was correct, the price of purchasing an extended does go up, the further you get from your purchase date, simply b/c the car has more tear and wear. So, I figured why not just get it now, and not worry about it.

To each his/or her own, but from my experiences, every extended warranty i have bought in the past has fully paid for itself by covering unexcepted major repairs.

If you regret canceling, just buy it mail order and still save significantly, or ask your dealer to resell it for the mail order price

Just got my Official service agreement in the mail from Nissan yesterday. I got the Gold Prefered 8 year 120,000 mile warranty. I'm confused about a couple of things after reading the agreement. On the Roadside Assistance Coverage, is there a limit on how often you can use this? It doesn't go into any detail about this at all. I know with AAA I can only use it 4 times a year. Also in the back of the booklet it gives an address on where to send claims for Roadside assistance. Does this mean we have to pay for this up front and we get reimbursed?

Also Item 3 claims that Towing Coverage doesn't begin until the New Vehicle warranty expires. Does this mean we have no towing coverage in the first 3 years or am I just misunderstanding this?

@dirtrat,

Got my warranty cards and pamphlet too.
Regarding the frequency of use, I believe it's unlimited unless its expressed explicitly. So my take it, use it as often as you need to. You pay upfront show your receipts and Nissan will cover costs related per incident. This is standard w/ most extended warranty included CPO warranties.

In our car user manual, it states

TOWING COVERAGE
If your vehicle is inoperative due to the failure of a
warranted part, towing service to the nearest authorized
Nissan dealer is covered for 36 months or 36,000 miles,
whichever comes first.

---

You are good w/ the factory warranty. You extended warranty covers you further, includes rental, hotel, and etc.. reimbursements..

$1300 extended warranty for 84/100K through bank allows me to use my own mechanic and not have to go through the Nissan dealership. The coverage even has a provision to cover tire replacement if, through normal wear and tear, the tire or even the sidewall is compromised by an object not normally encountered while driving. Considering the cost of the tires and that the car frequents construction sites, I thought that coverage could potentially be very useful. Also, it's such a small cost considering what you're spending on the car itself. I would sum up to say if unexpected car repairs will really stretch your budget, get a warranty. If you plan to do significant mods and/or repairs yourself or if costs aren't a factor, then there's not much reason to get the warranty except maybe peace of mind for some.

On another note, the first extended warranty I purchased for a vehicle was for my used 2004 Accord 6spd. With the electrical problems it's had, the warranty has paid for itself about four times over (it went it in twice for about $1600 total just to fix the windows so they would roll up and down properly - of course, that's dealer service prices). In addition, there have been several other issues where it was just nice to drop it off at the Honda dealership and have them look it over and fix it without any hassle or costs.
