Ester oil or other synthetic? how often?

i just bought a 09 370 with 11,000 miles and took it to the dealership for an oil change. the previous owner only used ester oil and i hear thats recommended. the service person at the dealership said Nissan doesn't recommend other synthetics until 15,000 miles. is that true?

Also how often do you guys recommend oil change? the manual says 3000 to 7000 miles and i'm used to doing it every 3,000.

You can do it every 5k, and continue to use the more expensive ester? or another ester based synthetic like Red line, or any standard 5-30w oil like mobile1. I use red line 5-30w synthetic, and change the oil at 5k.
Please use the advance search, there are many threads on this topic.

there's nothing wrong with using synthetic from day one. Or ester from day one. your choice nothing wrong with either.

FYI on the ester oils, you can contact us at Fontana Nissan for pricing, we tend to be the cheapest usually :)

synthetic oil--without ester

My wrenchmeister at the local dealership cautioned me not to use anything but Ester oil as there would be a knock in the engine. I would prefer Amsoil as I have used it for 30 years in Porsches, Toyota twin turbo etc. It meets all API requirements. Ester oil @ 13.00/quart is almost good enough to drink!

thus redline ester synthetic at 10-11 a quart is slightly better.
