not about a 370z but a maxima

Hello again everyone! I have a question related to the handbrakes of cars and i figured its the same or similar design on most cars (please correct me if im wrong) so i decided to ask you guys :D I have a Nissan Maxima and the handbrake basically won't pull up now. Normally, when you pull on the handbrake there will be that clicking noise after you reach each interval. However, my handbrake won't allow me to even move it up 1 cm. Each time i try to pull the handbrake lever, it feels like i've already pulled it all the way. I've been asking around and people have said that my handbrake cable came out of its position, and that it's a simple fix. Do you think a beginner like me (no car repair experience) would be able to fix it through a few guided steps? Thank you!

Young girl time,
yeah you can, but I think the best way to start is to take apart the center console area where the hand brake is. Most likely it's just a mechanical linkage issue where you hand brake is. Might be caught on something, or a bolt fell out into the rest of the assemblage.

@Equinox: ahhh i see! there's this fabric that can be unbuckled that covers the handbrake's mechanism. I unbuckled it and saw the adjustable tightening nut and a few electrical cables. I suppose i actually have to take the whole center console's cover off in order to fix it? Thanks Equinox! Btw I'm Francis :)

Buy yourself a chilton's repair manual for the year of your car. it comes with pics and procedures on how to do repairs. you can buy them at a pepboys or other autoparts store

being that the car is 11yrs old now you may just have to lube the cable that runs under the car, it may be rusted up inside the case. it's basically a twisted steel cable inside a spirally wound steel casing that is then coated with a plastic and the 2 wires like to rust together. try some pb blaster or w/e equivalent rust penetrator you can get and spray it into the end of the casing and work the handle until it moves.
