Thank you 370z forum community! I noticed this "key light" turn on as I pulled up to a car wash an hour ago and immediately Googled this issue. I found this thread and read I should not turn off my car so I left it running until I planned a solution. I called Nissan Consumer Affairs and my car is now approved for service at no cost to me. I read typical cost of this repair was over $1k. The car is still running and will be taking it to the dealership right now.

No recall on my 2011 Nismo I just paid to have the dealership replace steering lock.
After I tried to DIY with bad parts geek unit. got a refund but toasted the BCM in the process.
DIY beware the reprogram box doesn't always work and like me could create other problems. After dealer discounts my total repair cost $1774. new BCM & Steering Lock plus $125 towing fee to dealer. Getting a lot more serious about selling or trading in on something more reliable.

Pull the freaking fuse. Look at the steering lock fix thread. It's in there somewhere.

I have been reading about this issue. Had this happen to me on a 2002 Z06 Vette. Was able to jiggle "more like slam it side to side" the steering wheel to get it loose and to a dealer. In any event it is a scary event to have your steering lock up. When did they stop using this device as I do not believe my 2019 Z has it. I can move the wheel with engine off.
