Radiator Fan//Cooling issues
 

Hello All,

I live in CA and it's been averaging 94F+. My oil temperature are reading 225F. When I popped open the hood, neither fan was on. When I turned on the AC, both fans turned on. I know that's not right and something is up with the radiator fan, but I don't know where to trouble shoot or what it could be. I recently had a new radiator and thermostat installed because the previous one blew a hole. Also, it blew the connector for the return heater hose that sits behind the engine going into the firewall. When I squeeze on the lower radiator hose that connects to the thermostat housing, it makes a metal clicking sound. Is this the water pump fan? Is my water-pump going bad? Why is the radiator fan not turning on when engine heats up?

Food for thought: Car has Z1 CAI, Berk HFC, Invidia exhaust, Mishimoto Dual Core Radiator. 75k miles.

your oil temperature does not trigger the radiator fans. It takes some time of idling to get the fans turned on. If your coolant temperature does not move past half then it should be fine. If it goes past middle and fans still dont engage then you would have an issue. By turning on the fans using the AC gives another good indication that the fans are working properly.

The FSM has a description of how the fan system is supposed to work. Also has a LOT of other good info. Link in my sig.

A tuner can tell the fans come on much earlier using Ecutek software :twocents:

Sweet. Thanks guys. Speaking of tuning, it's the last modification I need. I called 3 local dyno shops and they quoted me $1300-$1500 for a dyno tune. I thought that was a bit much, do you guys know if that's right or a different way to tune the car? I just want the most out of the power curve and to gain the most potential out of my mods. What do you guys recommend? Is there a off the shelf tune? I was looking at Admin Tuning and to my understanding you just plug a cable into the car and a laptop and just save the data in a csv. file and email it back. It's a cheaper route too...
