inhancement without warranty void

depending on financial/economic situation come summer time or so will determine whether i can purchase or not but with positive hopes i would like to learn as much about the car as i can. i am curious about performance goodies that wont kill the warranty. anything from weight shedding to maybe better tires or a better air filter and so on. little things that add up. maybe i should have wait to post this before i were to buy and when there are more goods out there but im to impatient :eekdance:

thank you for your input.

You came to the right place! I'd first try using the search function located in the upper right on the screen, and from there anything you can't find an answer for then post a thread. People here are always happy to help.

I know anything dealer installed wont void a warranty, and your best bet would be to stick to bolt on's if they ever need to be removed.

Welcome to the forums!

By law, a dealer cannot void your warranty unless that modification caused the problem which you are trying to get warranty on. And the aftermarket modification is obviously not going to get any warranty from the dealer.

i'm afraid i wasnt clear enough. i dont mean something like replacing the crank and piston rods and cams and then throwing on a big turbo, go to an import show, get drunk, dyno the car pumping a million pounds of boost into it and blowing the engine to high heaven.. then expecting mr nissan to fix it for free :icon14: ... i just mean small things for example (please forgive my stupidity) an aftermarket airfilter (k&n or something) adding a few horses or better performing tires then whats fit (i plan on getting the sport package). and other small things that add up. i do understand that the questions i pose are premature being the car is but a fetus in its age among the population so i appologise but i'm afraid my incompetence limits my ability to find and figure out these things on my own. thanks

Tires and an air filter should do nothing regarding warranty. Infact, I think they show pride and care for your vehicle.

Big ups for caring about your Z.

Tires, wheels, audio, filters and or most consumable items etc.. don't normally cause warranty flags.

But even if it doesn't break the rules.. It always comes down the individual dealer. Some are "mod friendly" some are not. Some dealers do everything in their power to squirm out of warranty work.

Anywho...When the time comes just be wary and shop around for service.

well if i am so fortunate as to be able to buy the z soon i plan on purchasing 2 k&n air filters. and sometime soon when i get to test drive i'll see how i like the tires.

i was looking on k&n's website and they have 2 pictures of the engine compartment and the strut bar is different.

Agreed. These things won't affect your warranty. While technically they need to show causation, ie. the modified part caused the problem, a dealer can simply refuse service and avoid any headaches. One Nissan dealer refused to replace the starter in my G20 unless it was OEM. They didn't mind that I didn't buy the part from them since I got a deal online, but it had to be OEM for them to install it. So Greg's right about the individual dealers attitude to these issues. OP, the mods you have in mind shouldn't cause you any problems with the warranty.
