Trunk won't close became $540

So the dealership says the actuator is out and they have to replace the whole assembly. With 1.5 hours work... $540! 60kmiles and all I have is powertrain warranty. Is there a cheaper way to do this?

Use the emergency release cable = free

The problem is it won't close though.

YangCheolIn 11-14-2016 11:24 AM

Is there a way to force lock the trunk?

TreeSemdyZee 11-14-2016 05:22 PM

A lot cheaper to DIY.

I've bought from John Lee a couple of times now. Pretty quick to ship.

I'm unsure how that part works, but if I were you, I would take it apart and see the problem. It should be pretty easy to take off from the car and then take it apart. I see an electrical connector and I wonder if dirty contacts had caused the solenoid to malfunction somehow.

Push comes to shove, replace it yourself to save hundreds of dollars.

Thank you all for the help. Coverend under warranty... for a $100 deductable, but cheaper than the part

The actuator is prone to failure and is a costly repair unless you DIY. The hatch will not close or lock once it fails. Wish I diy'd but did not have the time to dink around with it.
The actuator is usually a special order.

you're the 9th person I know who has 2012 370z where the trunk actuator has gone out. It has gone out in both my Z's the one which was totaled and my current Z both are 2012. I think we need to sue nissan due to defective part. And if you do it yourself it is super easy. I was going to get it done at Nissan of Dublin but they wanted $900

My actuator got stuck in my 350z. Not sure if there the same but i took it out, popped it open and pushed some of the grease back. There are metal gear axles that go inside the plastic case. The grease had squeezed out, push it back. Never had the problem again.

Not the first one. Post this here for the next person that comes looking. Horse **** that the part costs so much. Taking mine apart and then going to see if my friend can 3D print me the broken plastic gear inside. I've taken it apart once already and the gear had slipped off, so I put it all back together and it worked for a while. https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance...n-t-latch.html
