Was in cruise control and lost all momentum? (tranny issue?)

I was in cruise control on the highway, 6th gear.... then all of the sudden, it was like the car was in neutral.... pushed the gas and it reved but no grab or forward momentum, shifted down to 5th, nothing... Pulled off the side of the road.... went to neutral waited a second, put it in first, it moved now, then checked all gears again and it was fine... Got back on sped up, went back to 6th and cruise... went to work. not a single problem the rest of the ride? WTF happened? Did my tyranny just decide to not work? There were no noises, nothing sounded broken. I just purchased it used about a month ago.

I know thats not a lot of info. But best guesses are nice?

2010 sport 6m, 41,xxx miles.

It is still under powertrain warranty, how do I go about having it looked at?

your clutch going? find an open road, drive 20-25mph in 4th and mash the gas. if the rev goes up and speed not so much, you need to replace your clutch.

Thanks for the answer, pretty sure it's not going out, As it seems to get good correct power in any gear on tap xD and after it happened I was able to blast back onto the highway. But I will check this on my way home tonight with those speeds in 4th.

Any other suggestions?

There is a cruise control switch up under the foot well. The clutch pedal presses against it when not in use. Cruise control will automatically deactivate if the clutch pedal is depressed.

I would check the position of the switch first - make sure the pedal is in contact with it and depressing the switch. Second, I might try to take apart the switch and clean the contacts inside - people have done this with another switch that is activated when the clutch pedal is fully depressed. Third, I would try replacing the switch. I don't think they're terribly expensive, so it's a good start for troubleshooting :twocents:

Thanks Blue, I'll check that out, but would that make it feel like im in nuetral but in gear? It was legit like I had the clutch fully pressed in and just reving, but the clutch was closed and in 6th gear? I just Coasted and it was like ZERO "grab" when pressing gas, it just reved up.

When the brake or clutch pedals are pressed enough to make the switches, the ECM will limit engine output.

It wasn't like that either. I wasnt touching the break or clutch. Had my feet tucked up almost Indian sitting lol cause I was just cruising in cruise control mode. Then all the sudden pow no more power/gas, like It went neutral. SO then I pushed the gas pedal...and all it did was rev, but i was IN gear. Droped to 5th gear...same thing...It just reved but didnt apply any power to forward momentum.

kinda freaked out, pulled over...Waited a second. put it in First gear, and it was fine...tried to pull away in second, then thrid, then 4th, then 5th, then 6th, and all gears Now "Pulled", So I hoped back in traffic. And no other problems occurred.

How cold I be reving, but in gear without like a broken transmission?

check your clutch fluid level too to rule out the clutch system. master cylinder, csc

Thanks I will check them as soon as I can.

What do you mean by "rev"? If you could take it to the redline, it sounds like a drivetrain problem (probably the clutch/CSC). If RPM stayed below 3500 or so, my guess is still one of the pedal switches.

Yeah I could literally fully rev it...WHILE it was STILL in 6th gear And I was not pressing the clutch at all... So basically to me it was like "Oh **** my tranny is blown/not being engaged while in gear"... slowly coasting to a stop....

Pulled over, took it out of 6th gear and put it in Neutral... Waited a few seconds... put it in first and it started to pull like normal, so I checked to see if it was pulling in each gear from a stop and they all pulled, So I just got back on the highway and had no other issues.

OK - I'm stumped.

Doesn't sound like the CSC or hydraulics to me. That system will usually not disengage the clutch when it fails. Or it could get in a bind with the clutch disengaged, but you weren't using the clutch at the time.

I haven't heard of a clutch with that much slip fixing itself. Same for flywheel problems.

I don't know much about the 6MT (I have rebuilt Ford Toploaders) but can't imagine what would cause your symptoms.

If it were the u-joints, the driveshaft would be laying on the road.

I dunno. I hope somebody can figure it out.

I agree!!! It was insane, I half expected to see parts on the road or a loud pop? There was nothing... Just like "laadeedaa crusing along...then...VRRooo oo oo mm" WTF? RPM go to Zero. Look down... Still in gear! Give it gas...RPMS shoot up (like revving in neutral) but car didnt speed up. "**** there goes my tranny" ... Pull over... then everything is fine. I know slips and pop-outs, I had a third gear pop outs in my 6mt accord at one time. Driven some other junkers with crap tyranny.

I'll keep my Fingers crossed on the way home tonight. Will update when I get home (if I get home) Hope it just never happens again.

If you're under a warranty, I would be setting cruise control every chance I got in the hopes that it happened again. Otherwise, I'm with you: "hope it just never happens again".

Yeah I drive about 33miles (twice) a day to and from work, so will be plenty of Cruise control.

So made it home and heres what has happened

1) turn on car, and in about 20 seconds the TPMS (tire light) came on and stayed on (Could this be because it's also like... 39-45 degrees out? xD) Deff aftermarket rims/tires

2) Drove home, everything else felt fine. Did 25mph 4th gear pull. Felt great still had plenty of pep and felt strong.

3) Did various spirited pulls on the high way one about a 55mph 3rd gear pull. Rocketed off as per usual.

4) was in cruise control @ around 77mph in 6th gear all other times.

So all in all it felt same as it has. No crazynes minus tire light all the sudden/// now I could be overthinking cause my brain wants to somehow link these issues lol
