Nissan is stupid.
Ok so aside from the csc being an a-hole, now the stupid steering lock went out. Like seriously Nissan needs to stop making weak parts. Or parts that malfunction for no user reason. Puts us in a bad position. Anyway sorry for the rant. I need a replacment but called the dealer and they can eat a wee wee because I'm not paying 1200 for a part no bigger than my hand. So does anyone have a suggestion on where to get one, I would really appreciate it guys. Thank you.

there is a recall on it. should be free to you.
if u havent noticed, ive done a diy on it in the diy section. try charging your battery to full and then wack it with a hammer gently while you attempt to start thecar to see if it disengages. if it works, cut the brown wire or remove the fuse to disable it completely. |
I called and my vin is not on the recall list. I will give that a try for sure thanks man
|
that sucks. from the patterns i saw back then, cars with weakening batteries were prone to this stucked steering lock problem. it creeps up around 2-3yr of ownership and around Fall when temps start to drop causing the battery cca to go down.
|
Hmmm that makes a lot of sense. My wheel is not locked but moving freely. The key light is on so I know it has something to do,with the lock. But here in a few I'm gonna go out the the car and give the old tap method a try. I really hope it works.

if u can turn your steering wheel then it's not your steering lock probably...
mabye your fob needs a new battery or if u recently done any mods to remove the center console you may have undone the RF antenna (driver side of the console)... |
Ok I'm gonna specify what exactly is going on. After I got off work last night I was putting my duffle bag in the back my fob was working and still is on unlocking the car. When I say in the car my Guage lights were not turning on, nor my radio but my done lights were. The car didn't make a sound as I pushed the clutch and the yellow key light came on and there was a red light blinking where the tach is. It looked like a car with a key in the center. But that's about it, got it towed home and now I'm here scratching my head.

IPDM problem? how is your battery?
|
If the Owner's Manual doesn't tell you what your symptoms mean, the FSM should.
|
Is the steering wheel "leaning into" the lock? The force exerted on the lock might have kept it from retracting.
I'm surprised that any member of this board still has a functional steering column lock. When I first got my Z earlier this year, the very first volley of modifications included disabling the steering column lock by removing its fuse. It took me all 20 minutes including fishing out a small socket from between the fender and the firewall. |
Sorry for the ignorance but are they certain model years with this problem? If so which ones are the trouble ones?
|
So is it just the steering lock or is you CSC bad too? If it is, I got a heavy duty CSC I'm trying to sell for cheap

I think that 2009s and some 2010s are on the TSB/recall list. If you have a revision that is likely to fail, I recommend disabling the ESCL the first chance you get. See link in my sig for links to several good DIYs. |
Just wanted to chime in here, do not always go by what the dealer says for recalls. Here is Nissan's recall website: Nissan Recalls | Nissan USA
Just enter your vin and get results. |
The steering wheel is not locked, but when I get in the car and press the clutch nothing happens. The dash lights are off the radio doesn't come on. Doesn't even do to aux. The only thing I see is the yellow key light and a blinking red light that looks like a car with a key in the middle. And to nismo ix, yeah it's not on that list :/ thanks tho buddy. Yeah I need help guys I'm so lost on how to fix this without spending a **** ton of cash.
