Coolant Leak
 

So I was coming back from a lunch break when I left my car and I smelled coolant. And I also heard a Noise that sounded like pressure was being released. I took a quick look under the car and I see coolant dripping. Now I hit some roadkill a few months back that did some damage to the under tray but everything else looked ok so I assumed it was ok. I think maybe there was a tiny tear and over time it got bigger to the point of leaking.

So I attached pictures so you could see where Im assuming the leak is coming from I just want confirmation. Also the drain looks like it has dry coolant on it, wondering if thats normal. I found a Youtube tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mayYHv5vOkg ) on how to change the coolant for a g37, is it ok to follow for my coolant flush after I change that hose out?

Another thing is that I have a 2012 and the hose that is torn is coming from what I think is the oil cooler. So that means that the "oem oil cooler" is just a sandwhich plate that runs coolant through it?

That does appear to be the leak. Replace that hose and do a good inspection of the rest of the hoses.

If the coolant has been drained, then what is on the drain petcock is probably normal residue. Clean it with warm water and a brush. If it doesn't come back, you are good to go.

Not sure about the rest. FSM should have coolant change procedure and info on the oil cooler. Or wait a few hours and somebody will probably have an answer.

Thanks that's what I was planning on doing. I wont have time to fix it until Sunday so Ill wait for more answers.

So I went to Remove the air relief plug on the radiator and the shop that fixed my car apparently put on the plug to tight. And now the plastic plug is near stripping. If I try to force it out, im worried ill REALLY strip it. Is it possible to fill the radiator without the plug opened? The car is my daily and I need it running asap Any help appreciated.

I've ordered the part but I dont know when it will come in. I need a the car running by tomorrow morning. Please help anyone.

yah, pretty sure it's possible. you just need to burp the system.

Anyone know exactly how much coolant goes in? I filled a little over 7 quarts or almost two gallons of the nissan blue coolant

I know the FSM says 9.1 quarts or something, But Im assuming that's if the block is completely empty which I dont think you can empty unless you pull it apart. So Anyone that has done it please chime in and let me know how much you usually fill with.

also picked up some water wetter, Can I just add the amount that the botttle says to do or would I have to drain the system out again and do a Water wetter/distilled water mix?

Thanks I just ordered it. I tried looking for that a locally but had no luck. Ill have to drain the coolant again to get the relief valve replaced so Ill use it then.

So you fill to the neck, Start the car and keep topping off untill its stops taking it down right?

Yah, fill the radiator and reservior, idle to normal water temp, then hvac to hot, race the engine to 3k rpm for 10 sec x3 times while keeping an eye on the water temp gauge. Keep adding coolant as necessary.

Once done, go for a test drive and check reservior afterwards.

I am revitalizing this thread as I believe I have that same hose torn. Anyone know part number or name for that hose?

Doesn't actually look like coolant as it is too "dark" a green color. The drain plug looks like it has sweated somewhat and you'll notice the remnant is a lighter green color. This stuff looks too sticky and might be some type of splashed material. Big thing is to monitor coolant level and of course don't let engine get too hot. A cooling system pressure test should be able to pin point an external leak. Not sure from the picture but the fan looks like it might have some residue? Hope that helps.
