Need to replace an 09 NISMO (need feedback to make an informed desicion)

Hello all:

USAA recently deemed my vehicle a total loss (even though they drove it away). I had an 09 NISMO with various upgrades installed. There are a few that drove it (or went for a ride in it) and most of them had a super cheesy grin on afterward.

The big question is What do I replace her with? I could most certainly obtain another NISMO Edition, install goodies and enjoy. Where there any specific problematic NISMOs by year or manufacture date that I should stay clear of? Alternately, would a Base or Touring feel worth the effort? The price differential is still not that much when you factor in purchasing upgrades for a non-sport. I would be making a move on wheels and aerokit if I don't get a NISMO. I have a means of restoring the go fast bits, but will have to purchase anything else.........so that makes a difference.

The bottom line for me is to get as close to what I had back on the street. The Dragon was the tail of the tape for me and the NISMO validated it's suspension and chassis setup on that venue. The sad part is that the people that I kicked it with had NISMO Editions (even the 350 crowd), lol.

Why was it totaled?

The only thing that could replace a NISMO 370z is another NISMO 370z. Sorry you lost her and hope you find another as sweet as her.

I can purchase new if necessary (with financing)

I have looked at that, as well as others. I am currently in Korea and won't be back in the States until late summer or early fall, so I am not trying to commit to something that I may not be able to obtain for some time. I guess I could commit and have someone take delivery for me, but I am not liking that idea.

Short story:

I left the car at UPREV so that they could have a turbo car to push the envelope and further develop their software. Someone hit my car while it was there and I am still in Korea. The damage was mostly cosmetic (hood, headlight, fender, and bumper), although the IC and piping on that side took some dents. The thing that pushed it over the edge was the $4-5k Greddy Type 29 Spec-R IC replacement price (since it is only offered for the GT-R now). I went back and forth for a couple months having them factor my installed parts/upgrades and value of the car versus the repair costs. Even though I proved that the repairs would be less than the 60% threshold, they deemed it a total loss because they could not replace aftermarket parts that total more than $5k total (per TX Ordinance). Hence the total loss.......

Deep down I know this, but I needed to hear that from someone else. I could probably pick up a BASE/Sport for $16-18k, but I would have to spend $20-30k to make it nice. I am not feeling the 15's wheels or wing, but I can deal with the rest of the aero. I figure that I will get what I want if I am going to pay that much for it. Shooting for a 13-14 NISMO.

I am not a fan of the Germans maintenance costs or reliability. On top of that, there are only 3 places in Killeen that will even touch German vehicles and they are usually backed up by 2-3 weeks.

My vote is for the new Nismo if that is something you would consider.
Also i love the fact that you are planning on a new Z, :D some woudnt buy the same car over again, I would most definitely.

keep it japan, nd miata? :ugh2:

janglez 05-04-2015 01:43 PM

2015 sport tech?

roplusbee 05-10-2015 10:48 PM

I pass on the Miata...........maybe if it had a 13B.

The NISMO Tech is very tempting, but I have a little heartburn with the look (if i am paying that kind of money). If I could get all of the 2015 changes with the 2014 exterior, I would be all over that. So more than likely a 2013-2014 or a straight up 2009 again (NISMO of course).

kswap is the new hype all the kids with miatas are doing now, 13b is more expensive then v8.

i really like the new nismo ( 2015 ) and the blacked out interior is great, good luck with your purchase btw

If you have a change of taste for another brand, an M3 or M4 would be legit. If you're dead set on the Nismo, I'd get a newer one like previously mentioned.

I love my Nismo, but once mine is paid off, I'm buying German next:p
