Repair Tonneau cover lid or not

I recently noticed that once in a while the tonneau cover strikes the bow when opening the top, and has left a very very tiny blemish on the edge of the cover. It only hits it once in a while.

If it stayed like that, I'd be OK with it.

My concern over having the Tech try to fix it is that since no one at the dealership has had any experience with this, they may just make things worse.

The adjustment seems simple enough, but once one side is adjusted, seems like the other side should be adjusted also, otherwise the bow will not fit evenly under the canvas.

My warranty expires this December, so if I want them to try to fix it, I need to do something soon, unless I want to pay for it after warranty.

I am leaning toward taking my chances and if things get worse, paying for the repair myself.

I am thinking it's not going to get any worse than it is now, and to have someone mess with it may be regrettable as by the time it's all said and done, I could end up needing a new top, and I really don't want that.

What's your opinion? Leave it as is and hope it doesn't get any worse, or let them try to fix it, knowing they will be basically shooting in the dark due to their lack of experience?

I am interested to hear your feed back,

Thanks.

Try to find a dealership that has adjusted them. Mine was knowledgeable and had no issues adjusting it. I would have it done as it could get worse especially in changing temps.

Thanks for the reply. That's a good idea, I'll check around outside of my area and see if I can find a Tech who'd had experience with the tops.

Just out of curiosity, do you know what adjustments they made? And did they do both sides?

Yes, they have to even the adjustment out on both sides. Took the techs about 45 minutes to do it.

Thanks man, that's what I thought, have to balance both sides.

I have a really good dealership, and have the highest confidence in my Tech. He is certified as a GTR Tech, so he knows his stuff.

Between your advise, and my taking some time to sort this out, I am going to speak with the service manager at my dealership, together with my Tech, and suggest that they contact both Nissan, and also to find some other Tech at another dealership who has experience, even if it's out of state, and figure out how to make the adjustment. I am very confident that once they really understand how to do the adjustment, it will go very well.

The service manager is really dedicated to customer satisfaction, and the Tech is meticulous in his work, so I am in good hands.

The problem is that I am the only 370Z Roadster owner in my immediate area, and they just haven't had any experience working on the top.

This will probably end up a win win for each of us. I will have my problem documented and repaired, and they will have the opportunity to learn more about the 370Z Roadster.

This may be a good time to also have those bungies replaced under warranty as well, as per a prior thread on the forum that had to do with the tonneau lid hitting.

Thanks again for the help and input!
