FI 18" CBE. Installed for a couple weeks and I am impressed. Really loud exhausts are not my style and is one reason I love this setup.

alcheng 05-26-2014 04:34 PM

Ark Grip, deep drone at low rpm and quiet on highway cruising.

I would like an affordable solution to just get a little more sound (I don't necessarily need a full system to gain power, just want to be able to hear it a bit). I'm not saying I want to just drill holes in my exhaust, I just want a little more sound that is pretty simple to install and won't break the bank.

After-market exhaust on the Roadster?

GTHaus is over kill then. Maybe just get test pipes?

:iagree: Same, it only gets loud if you make it. That's why I like ARK Grip.

I'm putting ArmyTrix valvetronic exhaust sytem on mine. It has an unbelievable sound. Check it out......

Ark dt-s

Thinking of going with ARK DT-S - has anyone installed that system on their roadster. ARK states fitment with the coupe only with possible interference from added bracing under the convertible. Has that been an issue that anyone can recollect? Also - anyone with this system compare it to other options out there with respect to sound?

Not sure what they are referring to. There is nothing additional i am aware of and all other vendors make one part: for all Z34s AFAIK. Sounds like they just never had a roadster in to validate and its CYA.

I have run franken exhaust for a while (OEM Nismo, now Nismo/AAM Muffler) and will soon be full AAM SLine). Things just bolt up. :)

Thanks. My assumption as well. Install looks pretty straight forward too.

ARK DT-S Exhaust

Feedback welcome on this. I received my ARK DT-S exhaust and have a couple of observations. This is all pre-installation. First the tailpipe finishers look staggered relative to the mufflers. Normal? Does the muffler assembly hang somewhat angled under the car? Also, the welded joint going into the forward muffler looks like crap - should be a smoother transition I would think? I have a message into ARK, but would welcome opinions from anyone who has this system installed as well. Pictures attached.

Definitely message ARK about this, they'll take care of you.

Love the Borla on my roadster - especially with top down! Not obnoxious, but beefy when you get on it a bit.

Ark dt-s

So installed my system. Left it partially installed for now until I figure out the alignment. Fits not quite as well as I expected. Hangs uneven both in height at the exhaust tips and how far each tip protrudes from the car. With everything loose that system isn't moving anywhere to align it. Any have to put washers under the rear hanger brackets to get their system to fit right? Will keep trying but gonna contact ARK on this. Advice welcome.

Yes, had to add about 8 washers spread across 2 brackets to get my TopSpeed Axleback to line up with the bumper cut outs. Initially it sat too high and made contact with the bumper. Overall, not bad for a $259.00 exhaust and i'm pretty happy with the final result.

dhoogerhyde 03-14-2017 12:54 PM

Thanks 370z roadster. I'm debating how much I dig my heels in here and push ARK for a refund on this system vs. figuring I'll need to rig any aftermarket system I buy. I've got a message into their sales manager on what I'm facing and awaiting his response. Your system looks nice - like the look.

dhoogerhyde 03-19-2017 03:29 PM

Quick update. Took 13 washers on one side and 5 on the other to level out the exhaust and get a fingertip gap between the bumper and tips. About a 1/4" difference in protrusion of the tips left to right and the passenger side tip is rotated. Now with leveling the rear section the mid pipes lay on the cross brace which I expected from others who stated the same issue. Some washers there and should fit ok. However, seems too much is wrong here and with the odd weld on the one bend, I'm going to return it. ARK stated they'd take it back and refund with no restocking fee. I still want this system to work, so I hope they have a new batch coming or can find a better solution.

dhoogerhyde 03-19-2017 03:36 PM

Sorry guys - talking about the DT-S system. If the guys at ARK don't have a solution, I'm looking into Berk or possibly AAM S-Line. Any thoughts on their systems - love to hear them.

Calgary370z 04-02-2017 05:34 PM

Just installed a true Nismo H pipe exhaust and love the louder idle growl and high RPM sound over the stock one. Also noticed much better responsiveness from the gas peddle !

I run the S-Line now...I rate it as a very pleasing sound, perfect in cruise where its a smidge louder but no drone. I wish it had a bit more anger under WOT, but I'd rather have it a bit too quiet then a bit too loud so I can't complain.

Too much is of course subjective: I prefer it to be heard as a sports car yet you should be able to leave your neighborhood at 5am and know you are not going to wake anyone.

Any one happen to have a picture of a Fast Intentions exhaust for the Nismo installed on their Roadster? If not, any pics of the non-Nismo version at the tip exit / bumper? I got a great deal on one and am having it installed soon - I understand the tips will stick out another 1” or so, and am curious what it looks like. Not sure if I’ll pay to have the back section shortened or not. Thanks!

I’ll answer my own question, as I just had it put on. Looks great IMO:

What is the Nismo part number?

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I've done a lot of research for an axle back exhaust over the last year. I wanted to wake up the Z's exhaust note under full throttle, have a nice rumble at idle, and still be relatively quiet at highway speeds without a headache inducing drone. After watching, and hearing, many video clips on YouTube, I made my decision. The price ... $225 USD.

I purchased the Manzo axle back exhaust from ConceptZPerformance on a recent trip to the Phoenix area, and finally had a nice day here in Southern Ontario, Canada, and installed it on the Z yesterday.

I am extremely pleased with the ease of installation and fitment which was dead on perfect without needing shims of any kind, right out of the box.

And the exhaust is absolutely everything I was after. It looks great, and sounds terrific at idle, when cruising and at wide open throttle, without being obnoxious.

Glad youre happy with your purchase! Got pics of it on your Z?

Bunk,

Car is under wraps tonight, but I'll get her out tomorrow and post one or two.

Seems a shame to have all of that polished stainless steel hidden under the rear of the car out of sight. The bevelled exhaust tips appear larger than the stock ones because the bevel is double sided and thicker, and the tips stick out an inch farther than the stock exhaust. But because of the overhang of the bumper cover, they are out of the way and you don't get snagged on them.

Falconquey,

As promised here are a couple of pics. A search of YouTube videos for Manzo 370z axle back exhaust will get you some sound tracks of the exhaust. You can even listen to the Infinity G37 videos, as its the same exhaust on both cars.

If you go to the ConceptZPerformance site and search for the Z34 exhaust, you see pictures there of the units.

Take note that there is an extra donut hanger bracket already welded to the driver's side resonator that is unused for the 370z (you can see it on their site on the left resonator), but it does not interfere with the installation in any way. It must be used on the G37, but clears all under body parts on the 370z and causes no issues, as its even out of sight.

Had the car out today and I'm even more impressed. Take your time through the gears, and at cruise, and you hardly know its there. But if you bash the loud peda,l it wakes up and takes command without blowing eardrums in Yugoslavia.

I'm certain there are no performance gains ... but this old guy didn't need that anyway. The Z can get me on a first name basis with every cop in town as it is.

Gene
