High Bean indicator... does this annoy anyone else?

Is it just me or is the blue high beam indicator light in the dash WAY too bright? When I am going down a dark road at night and I flip on my high beams the blue high beam indicator light is so bright its annoying. It totally makes my entire RPM gauge glow blue and I can't help but notice it glaring from the gauge cluster when looking at the road . Why the heck did Nissan make is so damn bright!?!? Makes me want to not turn my high beams on.

Does anyone else feel this way or is it just me?

svmtbman 09-11-2011 10:02 PM

I agree

nmjaxx9 09-11-2011 10:15 PM

I have noticed that too but it doesnt bother me as much because when I do use my high beams (which is very rare) I only use them for a max of 2 to 3 minutes, which does not bother me.

Waiz 09-11-2011 10:25 PM

I agree it's way to bright.

krzykanuk 09-12-2011 09:23 PM

I can't remember the last time I turned on my high beans. I don't remember it being annoying.

zcar_dad 09-13-2011 07:17 AM

I do believe you can adjust (i.e. dim) the dashboard lighting.

It does not dim the high beam indicator

VTZ,

Here's a thought!

Cut a small piece of electrical tape and place it inline on the len cover for the high beam indicator.

See if it helps with the glare, might not but it's worth a try!

gr8-wrx 09-16-2011 07:42 AM

Yup, it's pretty bright.

6MT 09-16-2011 11:03 AM

After reading this thread yesterday, I was curious about how bright mine was. Yes, it is pretty bright. Thank goodness it's only on for short times.

krzykanuk 09-16-2011 11:33 AM

I tried my high beans this morning. The dash light didn't seem that bright. Maybe the Canadian version is different. Or maybe the roadster version is different

:icon18:I've never tried turning on my beans.

Nissan is making sure you know how it feels to be blinded by high beams. I remember thinking it was a tad bright, but I havn't driven my Z in 3 months =( so I'm not sure anymore.

krzykanuk 09-16-2011 02:28 PM

That's the title of the thread:

"High Bean indicator... does this annoy anyone else?"

Sorry, my sense of humour is too subtle for some.

VTZ 09-17-2011 12:51 PM

Well its good to see that there are others that agree regarding the indicator light's excessive brightness. I've driven many cars and have never seen one as bright as my 370Z (and I had a 350Z before this car that didn't have this problem).

For most of you that don't seem to notice it or don't use your high beams much, you must live in larger cities and don't need to turn the high beams on much. Up here on the sticks of Vermont we use our high beams more often I guess, as there are a lot of dark roads, with no street lights.

Anyways, I will say that the Z's low beams do a pretty good job of illuminating the road well so I don't mind driving with just the low beams on, even usually when its really dark. Its not a major problem, I was just curious to see if others felt it was excessively bright (just a little forum small talk).

krzykanuk... when you said you tried your high beams this "morning" as in while it was light outside? If that's the case then you will not get a sense of its brightness at all. Test it at night when driving down a dark road without any other traffic and you well see what I mean. Nothing but BLUE glaring at you from your peripheral vision as you stare at the road.

krzykanuk 09-17-2011 01:14 PM

it was 5:30 am and it was dark. the sun doesn't come up until around 7 these days. I could see that it might be annoying if there were no street lights and you had your dash lights turned way down and no nav screen on.

krzykanuk 09-17-2011 01:32 PM

Also, I'm tall so I have the seat all the way back, which might make a difference.

Horsie 09-17-2011 04:27 PM

Very annoying !

Jim365 10-27-2011 04:52 PM

I agree it is much too bright. I like to use high bean when driving unlit country roads here (UK) at night. For one thing it means you see any stray animals on the road nice and early. But the blue indicator is so bright you feel your eyes adjusting to the dazzle. Unfortunately that means you see less on the road ahead, which is stupid. It is meant to be a reminder (hence can't be dimmed) but somebody blundered and made it much too bright.

Might be time for some insulation tape.

90 ST 10-27-2011 04:58 PM

I still want to put some window tint on it...

red6spd 10-27-2011 05:09 PM

How is this thread still going?????????? LOL... If it was not as bright you guys would be saying "I keep getting pulled over becasue I'm driving with my high beams on"

Hay have you guys noticed that when you eject a CD its kind of loud???
STOP!!!!!!!!!! LOL

somatic 10-27-2011 05:39 PM

LakeShow 10-28-2011 12:01 AM
