Mine's 60342 build date 10/10. So if it's the last 5 digits that means there's been over 60,000 roadsters built, or 60,000 370Z's total. I don't think either is true. I suppose it's possible that there was 100 built in 4 months between 10/10 and 2/11 though.

Yea, I noticed that "anomaly" before I made my post, so I went back to the garage and rechecked before making the post.

And just to be OCD about it, I just checked again, and my numbers are right:

2010 Touring - Black
#01849
Build date: 10/09

If dsimon40's is right also, I am at a loss to explain that.

Vin

Well, I contacted NISSANUSA and asked them a couple questions. What was the total number of Roadsters built in 2010, whether the last 4 numbers in the VIN are a sequential build number and if the build number was for all 370Z's.

Their response, that information is not available.

geosZ 08-19-2011 03:14 PM

That's a bs man they should be able to tell us.

geosZ 08-19-2011 03:17 PM

If I pay for something I should have the right to know. Ima call em too Mayb u talked to a lazy person hehe.

A long time ago, VIN's were called "serial numbers". I know that was true in the 60's but I can't remember when the change-over happened. Maybe now that they're called VIN's, there's no guarantee that they will come out in a "series".

Accoding to the wikipedia page on VIN:

"Vehicle Identifier Section
The 10th to 17th positions are used as the Vehicle Identifier Section or VIS. This is used by the manufacturer to identify the individual vehicle in question. This may include information on options installed or engine and transmission choices, but often is a simple sequential number. In North America, the last five digits must be numeric."

NOTE: "but OFTEN is a simple sequential number"...

My mistake guys. Build date is 10/09. Checked it twice this time. Sequential #'s are correct.

Oh cool thanks for double checking

OP, if you've got the time and inclination, it would be kind of cool to aggregate the info of all the subsequent posts into your original post.
