A/C Seat blower filters......
 

Yep, if you have heated and cooled seats, you have four of them.... and the list price is $96.00 a pop.

When I took the car in for the 15k service, I mentioned that I had noticed the volume of air coming through the seats seemed to have diminished since we got the car. I asked if she could check to see if there was a filter that needed changed. Looks like there are two in each seat and you can't get to them without pulling the seats out. No one from the parts guy to the tech had any idea thay they existed.

Needless to say, that didn't persue it without talking to me. I told them I would pull the passanger seat and see if I could at least see them. From the parts pictures, they look like small canisters like what you would see on a gas mask.

Just figured I would give you guys a heads up because I didn't recall reading our hearing anything about this issue. I will let you know what I find if I ever get around to pulling a seat.

Interesting... 96 bucks a pop kind of blows though...

No doubt! Possible the intake can be cleaned depending on the configuration. I will be sure to take lots of pics and keep you all posted... when I get around to it. Possibly this weekend if it is not freakin' to hot.

2. Turn blower filter counter clockwise and remove it from climate controlled seat cushion blower motor.
INSTALLATION
Install in the reverse order of removal.
Replacement interval: Every 24 months or 20,000km

I removed the seat cushion filters last night just out of curiosity. It was extremely easy. It took all of 10 seconds. I raised the front of the seat to the highest position. While seated in the seat, I reached down under the front of the seat, feat the filter and turned it clockwise.

Putting it back was slightly more difficult only because you have to correctly seat the filter before turning counterclockwise.

I'm going to experiment before spending nearly a $100 a pop for new filters that fit in the palm of my hand. First, I'll try cleaning them with a can of compressed air and possibly water. If that doesn't work... I'm thinking about buying a disposable filter with comparable mesh, cutting the old mesh out and gluing the new mesh to the plastic filter ring. I'll have to remove the filter again and get a better look (it was dark last night) to see if option 2 is possible.

I checked my FSM & it mentions a filter in the seat cushion or setback motors but it doesn't have a scheduled maint. replacement time. I also checked the service schedule & didn't see anything there.
Those things don't look like they are worth anywhere near $96 each.

I got to thinking about this a little more. Went out to the Z & did find one removable filter under the front of each seat. They look like it would be able to be vacuumed or washed & then just replaced. Mine don't show any traces of buildup on them at all but I don't use the coolers in the seats very often. The pic. doesn't show the color very good but it is pure white.
Nissan must have decided that they really don't need any service.

So the one filter under the seat bottom is easy to get to and change/wash/vacuum. Have you tried to get at the seat back filter? I assume that the back cover has to be removed to get at it.

It looks like the back one will be a bear to get at. I really don't think that it will be a problem with them clogging up to a point that they need to be cleaned or replaced. In the 2014 FSM it doesn't say anything about having to service them like it does in the earlier models.

Is there an easy way to remove the seat back cover to access the filters?

I really don't think you have to worry about removing them. I have looked at mine a couple of times & I can't see any build up in them at all.

I realize this is an old thread, but perhaps someone like me is searching the site for info on the climate-controlled seats. I wanted to answer two questions from this thread:
1. The filters are indeed washable and reusable. They're made from some sort of spun polyester filter material. I washed mine in soapy water and let them dry. Mine weren't really that dirty, even after 40K miles. So I imagine you'll only need to do this once or twice during the life of your car. No need to buy the $100 replacement filters.


2. It's easy to get the "seatback board" off your seat to access the upper filter. You have to remove the seat, and then unhook the two straps that are under the seat. These straps are sewed onto a fabric panel that hangs down from the seatback board. Once they're unhooked, just pry up on the bottom end of the plastic seatback and it will pop off. It's held in by two plastic clips. (See photo.)
