Windows Down Opening the Top

It seems that I cannot open the top when my windows are down. I have to put them up then click the "open" button for the top to function. Is that on issue on my car or it's standard?

axeman71 10-12-2010 06:01 PM

Mine does not do that. If I already have the windows down, the top works just fine.

I don't have that issue either. It is not how it is supposed to work. Take it back to the dealer and let them fix it.

Weird, take it back to the dealer. Mine detects it and proceeds too open the top.

Mine works fine with the windows down.

****, I guess I will have to take it back to the dealer.

Actually, if the windows are already down, mine tries to open the windows once again, it detects immediately that they are down and proceeds to operate the top. Take it back.

Same here, if my windows are down it will operate the top without any problems.

ddanis60 03-06-2011 01:35 AM

mine did that when i bought it. i reprogrammed the windows.. super super simple. just search "window re-program" or something. then it worked fine. then today i installed door speakers and had to unplug the door controls. after i put everything back together, programmed the windows, its now doing the same thing as yours again. im gonna try the simple program again from the beginning. either way, if you can avoid a dealer by a simple quick search, do it. hope this helps.

the dealer should fix it at no cost to the owner

Easy fix. It was the first thing I learned here and is why I stay:ughdance:
OK here goes: Locate both window switches on drivers door. Push both switches down and hold for a count of ten, your windows will go down. Then lift up on both switches and count to ten, your windows will go up. Your system is now reset. Do this whenever you do something that your sysytem needs reset. It's easy.

After a long winter's lay away, I decided to take out my roadster for a spin and unfortunately encountered the same problem as the OP . i.e not being able to operate the top mechanism when the windows are down ...arrgggh !
I have tried to reset the windows operating system ( sounds like good ole Bill Gates bugaboo, ha ha ! ) but no joy despite a few attempts.
Any one here have any other suggestions ? or I guess I have to head to my dealer this week.

Ok I am all confused now !
I have gone to my dealer twice now over last few days to get them to reset my windows/roof opening system as per what the OP originally posted so that I can operate the roof opening/closing when the roadster's windows are already down and they could not do it. The chief mechanic insisted it is this roadster's inherent protective safeguard ... to prevent damage to the windows and/or roof during operation of the roof's opening and closing.
Anyways we then proceeded to checked out a 2011 370ZR on the dealer's lot and it confirmed what that mechanic said.
Oh well...

My top goes down with the windows down no problem. I don't get it??

susu 03-24-2011 10:35 PM

Thanks Dixon for confirming this. I got my roadster last April and as far as I can remember ... I believed that I could operate my roadster's top that way last year. However living up in the Great White North, I had to store my roadster till recently.
It does seem silly not being able to close the roof when the windows are already down! I have to put up both windows to get the roof operational switch to initiate the roof closing sequence ... WTF!.
