I was just thinking about this yesterday so its funny you posted today. I am definitely still interested in this. Give it a little longer but if you don't hear from them maybe a reminder email (via their website) to keep the 370Z on their radar wouldn't be a bad idea ;-)

I'm happy to announce that I just put full insurance back on my 370Z this morning and she is coming out of storage tomorrow, as we have some nice days coming next week. Very excited.

BeachZTT 04-11-2011 02:42 PM

I posted on their FB page a few weeks ago and they said they were working on it this month (April). We shall see...

crash1369 04-11-2011 04:52 PM

I guess they haven't forgotten about it then, but they haven't contacted me yet either. If I still haven't heard from them by the time I get back home I'll send them another email.

Nice! I was just thinking today actually how sick I am of holding down the open/close button. :rofl2: Looking forward to this.

AWESOME!!! Crash... you are the man for doing this! Thanks. Looking forward to hearing how it goes.

crash1369 04-17-2011 06:45 PM

Alright, well it's done. I should know more this week but I expect it will go quick since the infinity module is already done and their probably the same.

BeachZTT 04-18-2011 08:13 AM

Thanks Crash! We appreciate you taking one for the team!!!

Joebarchuck 04-18-2011 10:59 AM

That's awesome. Thank you for doing this. A lot of us are going to be happy about that.

crash1369 04-19-2011 07:11 AM

No Problem guys...

Anybody want to buy the first automatic top roadster? You brought this on, I kinda want a Benz now ;) I can't say I don't like driving the one I'm borrowing now.

BeachZTT 04-19-2011 07:31 AM

Z_U_later 04-19-2011 07:38 PM

Oh boy, what have we started.... :wtf2:

crash1369 04-20-2011 08:23 AM

I just got an email from them, he's like 90% there but has to figure out the window code since it's different. But the roof part is done and working.

As for the Mercedes, this car got more attention in the first hour I was driving it then the nissan has since I bought it. :ugh2: (From the ladies of course, who cares what guys have to say) They don't seem to care that it's 8 years old and worth ~half what the Z is, it's says Mercedes on it right :rofl2:
The real reason I have been thinking about trading it in though is we all know the sacrifices we make to drive a sports car. Which is fine, I have always liked sports cars but these days I find it becoming increasingly annoying to be driving a sports car that I can't drive like a sports car you know. I won't race these *** clowns on the street that think their _____ are the ****. And they won't let me take it on the damn track, so I basically I'm wedged in a tiny car that rides like a wagon with no storage space to speak of and getting nothing for it. As much as I like the car I wouldn't mind having a back seat again and better yet a truck. It wasn't much fun jamming my snowboard in the passenger seat all winter, or my suite case which apparently is just to big to fit in the truck.

BeachZTT 04-20-2011 09:24 AM

:) All valid points. We have an XTerra Off Road to cover the mountains and beach scene. My wife and I have come to the conclusion that we will always have a open air sports car and a capable 4x4. It would be very difficult to have the roadster, or the TT for that matter, as an only car. My interests are too varied. It would be kinda difficult pulling the SeaDoos with the vert too. :)

Wife drove the roadster to work today. I called her this morning and got "I freaking love that car! Ya know... it just doesn't matter what kind of day your having. When you get in that car with the top down, it just doesn't matter."

Joebarchuck 04-20-2011 11:05 AM

Thanks crash for doing this, I know I will be getting the module once it's done and tested. As far as your vision on the Mercedes, I have to say I do not agree at all but then again I live in California and conditions might be different.

I am able to drive my car in canyons and many places where I have lots of fun with it. My step mom has a CLK convertible and I would never want that car for myself. I've driven it enough to say it's a beautiful car but it does not compare in the canyons which I take on a weekly basis. My whole fun would be ruined.

Now if you live in a flat land, I guess I can understand.

BeachZTT 04-20-2011 11:47 AM

^^ ...wish we had canyons! :driving:

VTZ 04-20-2011 09:28 PM

Hey Crash... when you do finally pick your Z up from them see if they can give you an estimate on how long until they think the product will be available for consumer purchase on their site. I was reading back through this thread and noticed that the guy who was reporting on this when they were working on the Infiniti G said the following:

"It will be available in about 8-12 weeks because of the manufacturing time of the wiring harness."

I'm hoping it won't take that long for the Z but if you have the chance to ask them on that, let us know. Thanks!

crash1369 04-21-2011 10:17 PM

I didn't ask specifically, but my guess would be the wiring is the same so there shouldn't be any delays there. I'll find out there, the codes are different though so he's still working on my car. I'll let you know next week what they say, or if they need to get in more test equipment to finish. Hopefully it will be done soon though.

As for another car, I agree there's very little that would compare to a 370Z. Which is why I bought it in the first place, but I lately I'm just not enjoying driving it like I should be so I am looking at other options. But the highway is not really the ideal terrain for a Z and I don't have mountainous roads to drive it on, and they won't let me take it on the track... so that leaves me with allot of untapped potential and irritation. It is a nice car though and I don't need to sell it so I am just looking right now to see if I find anything I like better, but if anybody's looking for one I'm sure we could work something out.

fonZie 04-21-2011 10:37 PM

Sweet!

sarmyth 04-22-2011 10:32 AM

Crash,

I feel your pain about not being able to use it on the track...I've been thinking to myself recently that if I was unable to, that'd be the end of this car for me as it's way too much car for the street....i have the santa cruz mountains to cruz through and do on a daily basis to work and even then, no track equals no mas. But I'm really surprised you can't track it. If your looking just for hpde's there's an number of them who have told me no problem. If your talking racing in a series can't really help you there. But hooked on driving does run nj motorsports park and pocono in the northeast, and a number of tracks around the great lakes. Try running with them before you ditch...it's a helluva car at speed. You will realize quickly as I have that if you ever rolled the vehicleinto the soft sand traps on the high speed corners that you'd quickly be supporting the car with your head as the rear hoops are so thin that they'd probably just sink in...I've only run with the top down once because of that, hoping that the fabric would be enough surface area to prevent a sink in in a high speed roll.

Try one of their events before you go.

crash1369 04-22-2011 11:54 AM

I'll have to look them up, but every organization I've found has said no. or that I would have to at least add a roll bar. I'm not cutting up my interior though or paying for a custom bar to be made.
I've got another car for that anyway though so now maybe I'll actually finish it.

You must be the guy he said just emailed him

The good news is apparently my car is done and the modual is finished. I was looking forward to having it back and cruising with the roof down, but the "bad" news is it looks like I will be trading it in on a C300 very soon. There is still still time for the dealer to drop the ball but it's looking good so far. I'll have some time while I'm, waiting for the new car so of course I will confirm everything is working as expected before I get rid of it.

Mr&Mrs 04-29-2011 10:36 AM

To those of you not wanting the Z because you cant track it, UAM is in the process of developing a Hard top. Go vote on it so your woes will go away!

On topic this is a great mod +rep to crash for donating his car.

VTZ 04-29-2011 12:03 PM

Peep what just popped up on their facebook page today:

YouTube - SmartTOP for Nissan 370Z Roadster - SNEAK PREVIEW by mods4cars!

We are getting close. Again, Crash, big props to you for lending your car!

crash1369 04-29-2011 05:36 PM

I have a feeling it's my car ;)

I would have liked to explain how it works and everything it does, but there is just to much. I'm gonna have to do some studying so I can impress the mercedes dealer :D
It looks like a very well thought out unit with a plethora of options. Between the module, and actually getting to drive it again after so long I almost don't want to sell it now.

He said they should ready and available for purchase in about eight weeks.

8 weeks huh!? Dang... I was hoping for sooner but I guess I'll get to enjoy it for the second half the the summer. Looking forward to it.

So Crash... does your car now currently have the unit still installed? Is it working on your car or did they take out what they did, to replicate it and mass produce it? I am curious, did they offer you the unit for free or give you any special deal for being the guinea pig?

crash1369 04-29-2011 08:26 PM

yeah I still have it, I'll be messing with it some more tomorrow. I know it all works, I saw him using it. But I don't know how to do it properly :rofl2:

The prototypes are not the easy plug and play units they sell so it's pretty much permanent in my car, the 8 weeks is for the wiring harness. Surprisingly the Z is slightly different then the G's are so they need to have new ones made.

Kirkster 04-29-2011 09:21 PM

I can wait. But this is a definite mod for me!!!

crash1369 04-29-2011 10:02 PM

I'm probably the last one to see it :ughdance: but I found the video

http://youtu.be/PeeMcpJGIGg?hd=1

That's a fine looking machine right there

crash1369 05-01-2011 08:06 AM

Still testing the module, I know how to use it now :bowrofl:

No problems so far (not that I expect any) but I figured I would let you guys know I did put down a deposit on another car. I will probably have the Z for another three weeks though and now that it's warm I should be using the top at least one every day so it will be thoroughly tested before I trade it in.

Or you've got three weeks it you want to snatch up the Mercedes of Nissans
:worship:

Evildmx 05-01-2011 02:09 PM

When I created this thread, I really didn't think I'll be getting any results. Especially after months and months of no responses. But I'm sure glad I started it now :)
This mod is well worth the wait.

HUGE thanks to Crash once again !!! and thanks to everyone who posted on this thread too!

crash1369 05-01-2011 04:06 PM

Glad I could help. It's a little funny I had this car just long enough for this to come to fruition and now it'll be gone soon. I'll just chalk up all the money I lost as taking one for the team. :D

Shane D 05-07-2011 09:20 AM

I see most of you guys are pretty current on this. I got an e-mail today that the module for the G37 will ready on May 20th. 370Z to follow.

"Hi,

crash1369 05-13-2011 06:23 PM

Good Luck guys, it's a nice unit.

My Z is gone, but I tested the crap out of that thing in every conceivable way I could think of and everything works as described. (when I did it right :bowrofl:)

In other news, for anyone who may be interested. The Benz is great :happydance: I have no regret, even considering the money I lost. I'm really enjoying this car :excited:

gr8-wrx 05-13-2011 10:36 PM

That sneek preview is pretty slick!
