Operating Roadster top from outside car

I need a bit of advice from our 370Z roadster owners who have owned this beauty for longer than me (2 weeks!) I understand you can operate the roadster top down and ?up from the button on the driver side door handle with your key fob in your pocket or nearby. However so far I can only get the top to come down in this manner after pressing the button for the? >10sec I havent managed to get the top to go up . Maybe I'm missing some other steps and the manual does not explain this well at all
Could somebody here tell me how ...what steps or requirements eg start button must be on "on " position or windows have to be fully up for me to get the top up in this manner.

Hi, I too just got on my hands on the Roadster a few weeks back. I remember my dealer telling me that you can bring the top down using the intelligent key but to bring it back up, you have to be in the car, start the engine and press the CLOSE button.

Have you tried reading the owner's manual???

susu 05-13-2010 06:08 PM

Ha Ha very friendly forumer and from TO too! Yep I did read the manual , item 3-21 to 3-26 . I was asking whether you can CLOSE the top from outside. Opening the top is not the issue here. Maybe I was mistaken but I did recall some reviewers said they could operate the top from outside. It would be nice if you can do this when you get out of your car i.e closing the top after you get out from your car. Oh well!

SUSU -- it is my interpretation of both conversations with my dealer as well as the "omission" in the owners manual that the external door button option is only for opening the top. Heck, until I read your post, I wasn't even aware of THAT option, but I'm a systems engineer -- reading the manual is something I rarely do....:icon17:

The sales man don't know crap!! He said the car needed to be in park with foot on the brake. I asked him about opening the top from the outside and he had no clue what I was talking about.

To answer your question, No you can not close the top from the outside.

what a stupid design. id think ud want to close ur top from the outside more than open it. say parked and u forgot to close the top? yah.

Chris_1 05-14-2010 10:47 AM

If you forget to to close a top when your in the car, I think you have more issues to look at then the top lol.

susu 05-14-2010 03:19 PM

Thanks Zigen for the answer and I do agree with SkyZ with regards to not being able to close the top from outside when you get out of your ZR , lock ur vehicle and walk away. That would be nice and intuitive. Hopefully generation 2 of this 370ZR will address this issue in an otherwise fantastic vehicle but I am not hoping for much! Jeez even the manual gives you all kinds of instructions ( to protect the top opening/closing motor ,I guess) before you attempt to open or close this top.

What would be cool is that when you're approaching your roadster you press a button on the key FOB and the top comes down. And just after you parked your car, you press a button on the key FOB and the top comes up just as you're walking away from your car.

haha i know its not quite the same, but i forget to close my sunroof in my altima all the time, i look back and im like dang and i haf to go back in the car, turn the key to on hold that stupid button down and yea its a hassle to keep my vehicle secure.

WICKED_GRIN 05-15-2010 09:05 AM

Nissan engineers designed the opening of the top from the driver’s door button for the sole purpose of cooling the interior before entrance!

Would love to be able to close the top from outside the car. I carry a computer bag around with me and either have to keep it in the trunk, or drag it across the center console after closing the top. It's be nice to be able to lift it out and then close the top.
