Carfax

Does anyone here have a Carfax subscription? I am going to look at a 370Z for sale by a private party and I want to run a check.

Thanks

From my experience Carfax does not cover it all
When I was buying a car I ran a car thru Carfax and it came back clean ,a buddy of mine ran the vin on a different one and it came back with a few hits that were not on Carfax
I'll see if he can tell me the other company name as I don't remember

A little birdy told me you can start an ebay auction using the VIN from the car you are interested in, they give you a free carfax, then immediately proceed to cancel the auction.

:iagree:

Just make sure you put the price of the auction so outrageous that no one will bid on it...

Thanks for the tips. After a long phone conversation it sounds like this may be the one. Going to look and drive it today after work...

2012, sports package 20k miles, one owner

Tried the ebay thing and they provide AutoCheck reports now and AutoCheck had nothing to report. I don't know if the VIN was wrong or if AutoCheck just isn't very good. I'll check the VIN and try Carfax.

So I got a Carfax report and they had the vehicle title and registration information listed and the dealer service visits. One owner no accidents etc. Autocheck had nothing, maybe they do better in other states.

I drove the car yesterday. Needs a good detailing and has 1st-2nd gear clunkiness (6spd manual) when shifting but from looking on the forums here that does not seem uncommon. Maybe a fluid change will help. I think I'm going to go ahead with the buy and get it maybe the end of this week.

BTW for people with USAA insurance they have a 20% discount for Carfax, $32 instead of $40.

Put in Redline MT-85 :tiphat:

Many say it improves the clunkiness, especially when the car is cold.

Hmmm so that trick doesn't work anymore...? Bummer.
