Nissan SUCKS!!!! (370Z is Great)

OK, first off, I don't mean to insult anyone, so read this before you get upset with me because of the title of this thread. Also, I want people to read this and the provocative title will help encourage that, as well as the fact that the title does honestly reflect how I feel at the moment. Here's why....

I'm in Canada. We have limited color combination choices here, compared to the US. Late September, I test drove a 370Z and said I wanted one. I REALLY like the persimmion interior but it only comes with black or gunmetal exterior (see, less choice up here in Canada). I didn't want black (personal choice) and while I like the Gunmetal that's the colour I've been driving around for four years now and I wanted a change, and on top of that I LOVED the magma red. So I said I'd go with black interior and Magma Red.

The dealer did a search of other dealers and said if I wanted Pearl White or Blue, I could have the car almost straight away (as there were ones available) instead of waiting for one from Japan. I lke the Pearl White but again we have limited choice here in Canada and the white ONLY comes with grey interior, which I do not like. So I said no to the white and no to the blue (which I personally do not care for) and said I was happy to place an order - MORE than happy, I want the 370z!

So, late SEPTEMBER, I gave the dealer the deposit and signed the paperwork for a 2013 Magma Red with Sport Package, Nav, 7 speed Auto. They said the car would be delivered "about Christmas". Their cycle date for ordering was first week of October and they told me at that time that THEY HAD PLACED THE ORDER (foolishly, I assumed this meant that they had placed the order).

I mentioned in this thread that I'm from Canada (the land of snow) and as I don't have enough money for two cars, I need to be driving this year 'round. So I went online and purchased 4 Nismo forged 19" rims and 4 Bridgestone Blizzaks and delivered them to the dealer who had agreed to hold onto them and install them in place of the stock rims (which I would obviously keep but put back on when the sun returns). I also purchased the illuminated kickplates which they would install when the car arrived. So now I've spent a few thousand dollars in parts on a car I'm expecting to get.

About three weeks later (so last couple of days of October), I asked the dealer if they now had a better idea of the expected delivery date, and they said no, but they did tell me that THE "BUILD MONTH" WAS OCTOBER (foolishly, I assumed this meant a car had been ordered and that it was being built in October).

Last Saturday (17th November) I was in the dealership (getting winter rims put on my wife's 2011 Nissan Quest van that we had purchased new from this dealer). So I naturally asked if they had any more info from Nissan about the delivery date. The sales rep I dealt with and the sales manager were both there and told me they couldn't personally get that, but when the General Manager was back on Monday he could phone Nissan Canada and they should be able to tell me. On Monday the dealer emailed me and said the Nissan Canada rep they deal with wasn't answering his phone and so they emailed him and they'd let me know asap.

So, on Monday, I joined this forum (GREAT, and great welcome btw guys, thanx), and I posted a thread to see if anyone knew a way of getting an approximate delivery date. Apparently there isn't, but it seems that most people get the car a bit earlier than advised (this makes sense, the dealer would be best to give a pessimistic guess so the customer isn't disappointed), and also it seems that the typical wait time is 2 1/2 months. If my car actually came in 2 1/2 months I would get it in three weeks time (a little before the advised delivery date of "about Christmas") and so all of this seemed to correspond to other people's experience.

By Thursday morning I still hadn't heard from the dealer, and I was thinking about emailing them when an email came in from the Sales Rep. She said she thought she better get straight to the point. She said the "Magna Red" (I know it's Magma Red, the dealer doesn't) was a "no go" at the moment, that Nissan had advised them that the "ORDER WE ATTEMPTED TO PUT THROUGH" was not filled as the factory will not do a build for that one car. She said their system opens back up on Dec. 4th and there's a 50/50 chance I can get the colour I want (of course that's in two weeks time and if I get lucky and they can be bothered to build it I then have about another 3 month wait!) On top of that, how would I even know they're building it just because they say they are? Then she said she could get me white or blue asap (yes, the cars I already said I am not interested in!!!).

OK, let's think about this for a moment. I assume she means not many people order Magma Red and it's not cost effective to run a single car through the build process. A) I NEVER KNEW THIS WAS AN ORDER ATTEMPT!!!!! B) I HAD BEEN TOLD THE ORDER WAS PLACED C) NISSAN CAN'T TELL THE DEALER WHEN THEY PLACED THE ORDER (ONE SIXTH OF A YEAR AGO!!!) THAT THEY CAN'T BE BOTHERED TO BUILD IT???? D) I WAS TOLD THREE WEEKS AFTER I ORDERED IT AND GAVE THEM MY MONEY THAT THE BUILD MONTH WAS OCTOBER! E) I HAVE PURCHASED NISMO RIMS AND SNOWS FOR THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR A CAR NISSAN DOESN'T WANT TO SELL TO ME F) When I got the email, I thought I was trying to simply get a more accurate delivery date, and I thought with luck it would be in about 3 weeks time - I had no idea that I would get an email saying that they don't want to sell me the car.

I cancelled the order with that dealer, got my money back (well, a cheque that I will have to wait to clear), and went straight to the other Nissan dealer in town. They found a gunmetal grey 2013 Z, Sport, Nav and auto with my FIRST CHOICE of interior (persimmion (orange)) in British Columbia (other side of the country) that I could have in about two weeks. I'm purchasing that car, and so I should now have a 370Z in 2 or 3 weeks. It's not my first colour choice but it's a close second, but I REALLY LIKE the persimmion interior. Also, I got $1000 off this car and I am planning to immediately buy an Invidia Gemini catback exhaust, rolled titanium tips, that will compensate and make me feel a whole lot better about getting my second choice in exterior colour.

If the first dealer had told me when they placed the order back in September that Magma Red was not available I would have been happy to get the gunmetal (as I love the interior) and it was a very close second choice.

Good news is my car is cheaper, I'm getting it in about two weeks, and I get the Gemini :)

SouthArk370Z 11-23-2012 02:32 PM

Sounds to me like the fault is with the dealer, not Nissan. Looks like they botched the order and/or failed to inform you about availability.
Sorry to hear about all the problems. Glad it turned out well.

Jasonle 11-23-2012 02:32 PM

sorry you had to go through that mess! at least you finally got one and cheaper :) welcome aboard!

what? lol

I normally would not read a giant wall of text like this but since you linked me to it...

tl;dr version:
I wanted a magma red Z with a persimmon interior so I placed an order with the dealership and they ****** up my order and made me wait a couple months so I cancelled my order with them and found one at another dealership, albeit it has a gunmetal grey exterior.

my response:
congrats on your new Z, sorry you didn't get your first color preference, you should paint it magma red with the money you saved
have a good day and welcome to the forum :tiphat:

Pat C. 11-23-2012 07:42 PM

Any idea what's up with the Magma Red color not being produced? I agree that the persimmon is a beautiful interior color as well.....Good luck when your new one arrives.... I appreciate long posts like yours. Lots of good details...
Pat

I suspect the main fault was with the dealer, but I don't know what happened and the dealer is saying it was Nissan's fault. What I DO KNOW is basically Nissan didn't want my business and can't be bothered building the car (essentially). But I agree with you, mainly the dealer.

gplw 11-25-2012 03:16 PM

To all the guys that have said in this thread to enjoy the ride when it comes, a very sincere THANK YOU! I'm really glad I joined the forum, seems great!

frost, thank you for letting me know, I wasn't sure about that, I mainly wanted other people to know my experience in case it helps someone else in the future and I wasn't sure whether to put it in the Canada section or the Delivery section. Pretty new to forums and wasn't sure of etiquette, but I appreciate you telling me, thanx again.

Xip, I agree that's a much tailored version, but the point of my post was to provide detail so it might help others in the future - no-one is forced to read a long post and as Pat C. says it's sometimes helpful.

Pat. C., I think the problem with the Magma Red was that not enough are being ordered to make it economically viable for Nissan to do a run of them - I can understand that, the main issue I had was the dealer took my money two months ago and I thought I was going to have a car about 3 weeks from now! Thanx for you good wishes I know I'm going to love the car when it arrives :)

This sounds like an all so familiar dealer issues. I've dealt with many Nissan dealers and for some reason a majority of them are bad. One thing that ruins Nissan's reputation directly is the dealer, salesmen, and even service can be a pain in the a**. I've been to many dealers and most are friendly but a good amount of Nissan dealers have stuck up salesmen and hire just low life management.
I got lucky and found a dealer in my area who sponsers this forum and he was just such a friendly guy and was looking out for my best interests. With dealers it's tough to find the right one and decent staff.

SS_Firehawk 11-25-2012 04:14 PM

I went to the dealer after my Wife blew my BMW away in her Maxima and found the first stick shift strippo sport packaged Z I found, drove it and bought that one. All I ever needed :)

grant 11-25-2012 04:15 PM

Not all dealers are crap. About 3 weeks after I bought my Z, the salesman called me and asked if I wanted a trip to Road Atlanta. Of course, I said yes since Road Atlanta is a nice track. He then sent me a certificate for a FREE NASA event at Road Atlanta. I had to hurry and finish getting the breaking mileage on the car so I could enjoy the weekend. Now that is how to win customers.

Hear, hear! I've found a dealer that appreciates my business, doesn't argue with me over valid warranty claims, and has some experience working on Zs. My local dealer is just the opposite. I've even removed the original dealer's decal from the rear bumper cover and now sport a small decal from the current dealer on my "vent" window.
I found out that I got non-ester oil with my oil change this weekend, but, as long as they will do another change with the right stuff, I'm willing to chalk it up to "feces occurs" and call it good (no harm, no foul). Going by my past experience with them, I don't anticipate any problems. If it were my local dealer, I'd be expecting a fight. Only time will tell how it turns out, but I will sleep better tonight, confidant that resolving the issue will be easy come Monday.

Agreed, worked with 2 different salespeople at 2 different dealerships in ordering my 13 Z. One was excellent & one kept the BS always ankle deep, needless to say don't like S*** on my ankles and ended up buying from a great guy.

To OP, glad it worked out for you.

dmhenderson 11-25-2012 04:53 PM

I factory ordered my car in Nov of 2011 and it wasn't delivered until mid-late March 2012.

alcheng 11-26-2012 02:33 AM

I placed the order in May 2011 and didn't pickup the car until end of Sep 2011.

The thing is, when dealer told you the time frame they are placing the order, usually the actual order date is much later than that. Don't know why but it happens.....

2nd thing is the dealer won't know right away that if the color has been discontinued until a long while after they placed the order.

Imagine Nissan Japan is receiving orders globally everyday, it's not surprised it takes them a while to response to your dealer.

When I place the order of the Z in May last year, the dealer couldn't get a VIN number almost 3 months later, even the business manager told me the car has arrived the port of Vancouver at the first week of Sep, the Z didn't arrive the dealer 3 weeks later.... :ugh2:

But I admit, it's the dealer's responsibility to keep you updated.

Anyway, why don't you get the ARK Grip exhaust?? I have it on the Z and it's amazing!!!

cheers

NYBladeZ 11-26-2012 10:32 AM

Another horrible dealer story. It seems like the only way to get the car you want is to somehow find it yourself through your own search and having the dealer sell you a car they already have on their lot.

I like the gunmetal and orange interior, that's the combo I test drove when I decided on getting the Z. Of course they wanted over $40k for some unknown reason so I walked away and went elsewhere.

dmhenderson 11-26-2012 12:03 PM

The funny part of course is that all dealerships have a dealer inventory computer database that will tell you what's where. They just won't share it with you lol

Edit: I know this because I got to see it in action when we were looking for a '12 black nismo in the area.

Ordered from Fontana Nissan same month as you and had the car beginning of September in the exact color and configuration I wanted. Fontana Nissan is definitely one of the better dealers at least from my experience.

Caymansbanker 11-26-2012 10:38 PM

I always try to buy something off the lot, and I do my own research. Even then, I am amazed at the games some salespeople try to play. And it's not one particular car brand - I have dealt with good and bad at Mercedes, BMW, Toyota, and now Nissan. I currently live in Atlanta, and I have had ZERO success trying to work with local dealers in finding a 370z.

Cmike2780 11-26-2012 11:44 PM

Kind weird they don't have that color available. I don't see how it's a production thing on Nissans part considering the US version is nearly identical in just about every way. It's built on the same line as far as I know. I honestly think that dealer just screwed up and never placed the order in correctly. They had to cover their *** so they tried to sell you something in stock. Not 100% sure, but I also think Nissan lost a cars at the ports during hurricane sandy that could have effected overall production.

Quick370z 11-30-2012 04:22 PM

That totally sucks you had to wait - obviously the dealers fault.

I think if they wanted your business they would have done anything and everything - good to hear you picked out another.

How much snow do you guys get in the east?

We get tons here in Alberta and most Z's are parked...I wouldnt drive mine as its wear/tear.

gplw 12-06-2012 01:16 PM

Last year we had almost no snow - it was great! Year before that the university where I work shut down quite a few days and by the time I'd shovelled to the end of the drive I had a couple of new feet of the white stuff where I'd started! So you never know... But I've got nice Nismo 19" forged rims as my winter rims and some nice Bridgstone Blizzaks on those, so it should be OK :)
