Rear Spoiler Backorder

So I bought my 2013 370Z Base model on Oct 9.

As part of the purchase I asked for the OEM rear spoiler and the illuminated kick plates. Dealer thought they would get them in 2 - 3 days and then they could set up an appt to install them. Well, here it is 17 days later and I dont have them. The kick plates they got in a couple days. The OEM spoiler is the probem. After about 2 weeks they were told by distribution that the spoiler is on backorder and they will not get any in until Nov 28!!!

The dealer mumbled something about being a brand new 2013 so it would be awhile to get the parts. I dont have a 2013 unique color (I have Gun Metallic) and the part number for the OEM wing is the same for 2012 - 2013, so I am not really buying that excuse.

I called Nissan customer support myself and I am suppoused to hear back from them today. There probably isnt anything they can do, but I just kinda needed to vent. :shakes head:

Maybe I can get them or the dealership to throw in something extra for my "Pain and Suffering".

How much does the spoiler cost? around $500? IMO, if you wanted an OEM spoiler, should have just gotten the Sport package along with all the other goodies, but that's just me.

speedracer007 10-26-2012 10:56 AM

Problem solved -- I will just go buy another Z with the Sport Package!!:p

Truthfully when I first started looking at the Z I was thinking of the Sport Package mainly just to get the look of the OEM Spoiler and I thought the Rims were alot nicer than the Base model's. And then I saw the new Rim design on the 2013 Base model and I said "I really like the look of those". Also, this car is my daily driver, I am not going to the track and racing -- just having a more enjoyable daily commute. The Base model offers plenty of performance for my needs so the spoiler is only there because I like how it looks. I am just frustrated because it looks like I will have to wait at least a month

Good solution. :icon14:
You will be fine in a month but I am sorry for the wait in the meantime.

Amuse370z 10-26-2012 02:09 PM

Get it on ebay for $130.

tonythetiger 10-26-2012 08:07 PM

got the knock off version on ebay and no paint or fitment issues

Jordo! 10-26-2012 08:26 PM

Are they charging you for the "aero package"?

That should include rear spoiler and the front lip spoiler.

LakeShow 10-26-2012 10:53 PM

You can always add the spoiler later if want to the base model.

koeppelnissan 10-27-2012 11:00 AM

Nissan seems to always have an issue with spoilers. They are always on back order

speedracer007 10-29-2012 10:04 AM

So -- koeppelnissan -- is my dealer telling me the truth?

speedracer007 11-02-2012 03:07 PM

Latest update -- Received a call from Nissan Customer Service today. They told me they are looking to expedite a spoiler for me but there is no ETA at this point.

Oh well, taking a little roadtrip this weekend -- looking forward to enjoying the ride.

I'm getting ready to have my Stock Sport Spoiler removed for a wing install, it's Magnetic Black which I know isn't your color, but provided the wing itself is removed in one piece, I could ship it to you to be repainted, possibly simpler/cheaper than buying a new one...

Just another option if you want to consider. :tiphat:

Xplicit97 11-02-2012 06:33 PM

No offense but waiting a month for a spoiler is nothing.. So getting anything extra for your "paind and suffering".. come on now give me a break.. unless the dealership outright lied to you, you have no legitimate gripe here..There's much bigger problems out there and pretty much anything your order for a Z is going to have a wait.. So get use to it.. Put your big girl panties on and calm down

Hey thanks for the offer, but I will just wait for the dealership to get the one I ordered in.

Boy, it sure seems like I pushed someone's button!!!

And hey, getting something extra for my "pain and suffering", was somewhat tongue in cheek, but it never hurts to ask (Maybe a 370Z license plate frame?)

I dont have a legitimate gripe?!?!? It looks like it will end up being 2 months from the time I purchased my car until I get ALL of the car I payed for. That is just poor logistics on Nissan's part. Now I can drive my Z around for another month and it does not make a difference if I have the spoiler installed or not. But what about the poor guy who has a Z that already had a spoiler on it, got rear ended and now his car is in a body shop and they are telling him it will be another month to get the car back while they are waiting to get an OEM spoiler from Nissan?

If you talk to the right person, ANYTHING can get done. There is no reason why someone in the factory in Japan can not take a Gun Metallic spoiler, but it in a box, slap a FEDEX label on it, and send it directly to the dealership --THAT would be good customer service :tiphat:

Z-Girl 12 11-06-2012 06:30 PM

Ask for a few free oil changes, a Z hat and a Z tshirt...wait the month and enjoy the car a free goodies.

speedracer007 11-08-2012 02:20 PM

More run around from Nissan corporate. Was informed today that the new best guess for when OEM spoilers will show up is 12/27. By the time it shows up at the dealership and I make an appt to get it installed it will be 3 months from the time I purchased.

I love my car, and Nissan in general ( I had an Frontier pickup truck that I put 112,000 trouble free miles on ), but this is a little ridiculus.

speedfreek 11-08-2012 03:06 PM

Poor guy having to drive around a base model Z looking like a base model Z. Cheer up Buck. It's not all doom and gloom. They are likely making you a brand new spoiler on their next batch run with some fresh Gun Metallic paint just for you. I mean you wouldn't want one of those stinking Magma Red spoilers they have in stock just sitting there gathering dust blown off and repainted in Gun Metallic would you? Patience grasshopper.

Quick370z 11-08-2012 03:31 PM

sucky to hear

I remember when my last Z broke, all the parts came from Japan, took forever to get delvered.

I would have ordered an aftermarket spoiler, got mine in 4 days from the USA :)

speedracer007 11-09-2012 08:12 AM

Thought about the aftermarket spoiler and doing it myself, but then I realized that I was not confident enough in my abilities to start drilling holes through sheetmetal:eek:

Hats off to all you guys who do it yourselfs:tiphat:

Plus in the job that I am in, overtime is ALWAYS available to be worked. Instead of taking a couple hours to do it myself, I can work a couple hours of OT to pay for it.

I am not planning alot of mods, but I will jump in and install a new stereo myself sometime in the future when I decide what HU I want, plus find the time to do it.

speedracer007 01-04-2013 02:01 PM

Hey, thought I would tell the end of my story.

Got a phone call from the dealership on 12/18 to tell me that they had my spoiler in hand!!!!

The earliest they were able to get an appt for was the following Thursday after Christmas. :santasleigh2:

So I was trying to work out the logistics of getting the Z over to them for the day. Dealership is about a 45 minute drive from the house. I (nor my wife) was not too keen on having her follow me to the dealership to give me a ride home, and then repeating that later on in the afternoon. I called the dealership and they said no problem, they would have someone pick up the car and deliver it back to my house. So the following morning, the used car sales manager (who told be he only lived about 5 minutes from my house) stopped by, left me the keys to his dealers car ( a new Maxima ) and drove the Z to the dealership (pretty reserved 60 year old guy, so I presumed he didnt drive like a madman :driving:).

Got a call around 4:00. Service dept of the dealership had just gotten the Z from the body shop that installed the spoiler. Told me no way they could be done that day (they were installing the kickplates and repairing a nonfunctional fuel filler door). I said no problem, I have a car to drive if I need it!!!!

So.........................the next afternoon, the service manager calls me to say that the kickplates were installed, but they could not fix the fuel filler door because the acuator was bad and they would not get a new one in for a few days. I am figuring "what can I do?". So I tell them OK have the used car manager bring the car to me after work so we can swap keys and I figure I will have to make an appt for the following week to take the car over and wait while they replace the actuator.

The used car guy shows up and says "We got everything fixed". When I asked him how that happened he told me that he told the service manager to pull a working actuator off the other Z they had on the lot and fix my Z.

So I give the guy props  for recognizing that although it wasn't the dealership's fault that I had to wait so long to for the spoiler, that I wasn't a happy camper, and so he did what he could to make my life easier.

speedfreek 01-04-2013 02:32 PM

It all ends well... glad to hear they got you taken care of. I haven't had any issues out of the local dealer and hoping it stays that way.

danegrey 01-04-2013 05:09 PM

cool, that they went the extra step
