2012 vs. 2013 buying Q's
I'll soon be in the market for a 370Z. With 2012 Z's becoming a MUST sell for most dealerships...what are your opinions on trying to get a good deal on a 2012 and drive it off the lot, versus buying a 2013 with slightly higher MSRP.
I love the new front bumper redesign on the 2013, but would most owners here just opt for the cheaper 2012? It's essentially the same car in the end correct? |
2013
I bought mine a few weeks ago, Started out looking at a 2012 and ended up with a 2013...when I asked why ...he told me they could work a better deal on the 2013..which was fine with me because I liked the color better...Still don't know the reason behind it...

I would probably go with the 2012 but it depends on what you really want.
|
I picked up my 2012 about 6 weeks ago. I purposely wanted a '12 over a '13 based on looks. A bonus was they were offering 0% financing on 2012's:happydance:
|
Cant go wrong either way. Whatever is a better deal is a better deal. I like the 13' look a bit better but if its not financially sound then forget it.
|
Get a 2012 with everything you want, then haggle as I did. My 2009 in 2010 was $32,900 and fully loaded. That was $7400 off sticker. I have used the NAV twice for real. I did not pay for it so who cares.

Get exactly what you want.
|
coltrain, I got the 13 because I could get exactly what I want. The dealers had a couple of 12's but not with the right color or options.
Could I have gotten one of those 12's cheaper? Yes; but would I have been satisfied with my purchase? The answer for me would be no. Like you, I preferred the front bumper of the 13 and was 50/50 on the rims (I got the spt pkg), but now I prefer the 13 GM colored rims also (plus red clipers are sweet). When you're alongside 09-12's, yours will stand out (in a good way)! Whether you buy a 12 or 13, you'll be spending a lot of money either way, so get what you want. There has not been a single day since I bought my car where I regretted buying a 13. But I know there would have been regret, if I paid well over $30K for a car I didn't really want just to save a few bucks. Other than looks, the 13 does have the euro tuned suspension on the sport pkg. Good luck on your decision. |

Money's never been an issue for me when buying a car. If I want a "new" car, I'll usually order exactly what I want.

Sorry but 2013 looks terrible with those wannabe stunna LEDS and giant gaping manta ray mouth. It stands out in a worse way |
:wtf2:

I agree with everyone on here... get what you want! I personally like the fangs. But if you like the new 2013s front... get what you like.
|
I did opt for the 2012 but I'm not a huge fan of the new bumper. I say if you're really high on the design changes, go for the 2013. If you're just middle of the road, save yourself a few grand and pickup the 2012. You can find some killer deals right now and there's still plenty of stock. If your local dealer doesn't have what you want, see if they're willing to ship something to them. That's what mine did. I found the one I wanted in another city and had my dealer ship it here for me. It only cost me $300 (I paid invoice on the car) and I got exactly what I wanted.

I wish I had held out for the '13 so I could get the color combo I wanted with the persimmon interior. Also, so I could whine about not holding out for the '14...

If I'm spending ~$35K or more...I might as well just get what I want. Good advice.
I think the only 2009-2012 370Z I'd get would be the 40th anniversary edition. The red leather can't be beat...unless I get a 2013 with Persimmon :p yum... Quote:
And the bull dog teeth are more attractive? |
What do they say about opinions being like butt holes?
Nevertheless here is mine. I like the fangs. The new front end is super sexy, and even reminds me a bit of an Austen Martin (especially in silver), but I like the quirkiness of the fangs. They are a bit oddball and to my mind that makes them kind of "retro cool". |

I bought my '09 brand new at end of November '09 for $700 under invoice as I figured it. I was fortunate because it was exactly the car I wanted and same car as the 2010's. I used the savings to buy a Katzskins leather interior and ClearBra. I guess it's all in the timing. Just be sure you're thrilled with the car you buy. You don't want to do this over again in a year. You'd really take a financial beating if you did that.

Out of 6 dealerships within 25-50 miles of me, there seems to be only 2 2012s left and both are roadsters.. |
I think your idea of this is a bit wrong. I manage to get my 2013 with everything I wanted for invoice. For 2012 you may not get what you want but it can be hassled lower then invoice I think. Also the are quite a few differences from the 12 n 13 so you may want to look over that.
