This a good price?

Talked to the best dealer in my area for Nissan, and they located me the exact Z I wanted (the didn't have what I wanted) thought they had a red 6 spd base with sport turns to be automatic...
He said because getting it from the other dealer and driving it the best he offered on the phone was 32k to 32,500 out the door.
tax tags etc...
Sound good or should I try lowering it?
recommendations are welcome and thanks in advance.

Wait, so you want a MT but you're going to compromise with an AT?
You may want to get all the options and stuff written down. The price seems like a Base model plus some accessories like carpeted floor mats and a carpeted trunk mat. Too cheap to have the Sport package (unless they actually drove the car itself to the dealer, in which case, it's technically used as it has to be registered).

I recommend you get some more details.

i suggest you dont settle for an auto if you originally wanted a 6 spd. you will regret this decision immediately.

no no, they thought it was MT, turns out to be AT, they foundme a dealer that has a MT in stock with Sport package, mats etc.. and said it be 32-32.5k out the door. I only buy a MT and wanted solid Red

People were offering the cars for $300 above invoice with no negotation needed, also car will have 100 miles by the time it gets to you. Why have someone drive it when you can do it on your own

370Z Purist 06-15-2009 02:30 PM

Okay, if they are driving it themselves, then it's likely that they will title and register the car in order for it to be legal. In which case, it's essentially a used car. Accordingly, them charging you 33,000 or so is overpriced. I'm assuming this is just a Base model with Sport package.

In any case I would recommend you get to the other dealer and make the deal there, or if it's particularly far, request them to deliver on truck. You don't know what might happen when a sales associate of a dealer decides to drive a car like that 100 or so miles. Delivering by truck does cost money and take significant amounts of time (about a week), so I don't know, but it's your choice.

Dealers don't have to register a car to DX it. They also typically don't have salesmen do it. Salesman work on commission and don't make any money when they are not in the building. Dealers usually pay older retired guys to DX a car for them. I don't think they will be joyriding in your new Z.

But I think you'll agree it might be a better idea to drive it yourself if possible.

I spoke to them and have no problem shipping it, not really far, and they also have retired guys do it as well. they don't have to register it and it would be new. If I could I would do the deal but active duty military I don't get off enough to do the coule day jump needed, then the extra day just to enjoy her.
Not an issue with me in particular.

First, I commend your service.

Second, enjoy the car!

My recommendation is to check out Edmunds.com and price the car with options. This will show you the invoice and corresponding MSRP by option.

For example:

Base Model $Invoice XXXX $MSRP YYYYY
Option 1 $AAA $BBBBB
Option 2 $CCC $DDDDD

Total $total invoice $total MSRP

Given the economy, you shouldn't be paying over invoice, which is the dealers "cost" of the vehicle. Dealers get holdbacks at 2 - 3% of the total invoice price and also corporate incentives for selling in high volume that will make up for the initial loss of selling below invoice.

On Saturday, I bought a base with sport package and floor mats which had an aggregate MSRP of $33,740 and an aggregate (with options) invoice of $31.7K. We settled on $31K or, $700 below invoice. I also know of someone who bought an Infiniti G37 for $1500 below invoice. Perhaps if I were even tougher, I could have squeezed another couple hundred dollars.

The only thing is there aren't any rebates for the new Z. You just have to find a dealer that needs to move inventory. Also check out CarBuyingTips.com new car buying guide, avoiding dealer scams, new cars, used car buying which teaches you how to negotiate. Very informative. - BTW- I used to sell cars back in college. Hope this helps.

I paid 31,594 BEFORE tax and title. So, $32500 with tax and title (OTD) = GO FOR IT! :driving::tup:

watch out for the "dealer transfer fee" most dealers will charge $500
for this service.
unless you ask you wont know about it till you sign the paperwork.
