No Luck Ordering a White 370Z

So here's the deal. Last Summer I start test driving new cars, hoping to find something that grabs me. I thought it would be the new Evo X or the BMW 135i. Neither one excited me enough so I checked out the 350z nearby. I was pleasantly surprised but it still wasn't enough so I decided to wait. Shortly thereafter, I hear about a pending redesign so I held off on any decisions. Several months later I saw the unveiling of the new 370z and I was hooked!

Fast forward to February of this year. I went to a very reputable dealership and told a very friendly sales guy that this is the car that I want. Rather than trying to sell me one of the cars that they had on the lot, he said that they could use one of their allocations and order my car. Sweet! I came back a few weeks later on March 6th and got the paper work rolling (with a deposit). I was told that it would arrive sometime in early June but I did not want to pick it up until July 1st due to my financial plans.

I stopped by said dealer at the end of May because I had heard zilch from them. The sales guy said that he was just getting ready to call me (oh no...). It turns out that they were not allowed to order any cars back in March (after he pressured me that I "had to do it now"). Since Nissan was cutting production, new orders were impossible and they were just getting their allocations. He said not to worry as they were going to grab one of the cars from the port in a couple of weeks and that he will let me know. He felt confident that the car would be available in port around the first week of June and that it would be here before the end of the month.

So I received a call yesterday. The sales guy tells me that they are having no luck finding the car that I want in port and wanted to know if I would take anything else. I told him no and that I had my heart set on a white 370z 6sp + touring + nav + kickplate + mudflaps +carpets for many months back when I ordered. He was going to see what he could do. Honestly I think they will have little luck finding the car I want and are probably hoping that it shows up in the coming year.

So here I am just 16 days from when I had dreamed of owning a 370z after a long 8+ months. I really have my heart set on a white model, 6 speed with all of the options. I also want to use the VPP that I qualify for. I wish I knew that the order was going to fall through as I would have tried very hard to order it elsewhere, if the story they told me was a lie (other orders are coming though, right?)

I guess my options at this point are to go to the other local dealers and see if they can locate the car I want. I'm thinking that at this point, it may take another month at least and I may have to quite possibly either settle for a different car, drive one back from some distance away or keep waiting :shakes head:

you got to try other dealers, make them check their computers of whats coming in for the next shipments.....they have it....you got to ask.

what's up with all these stories of ppl not able to get the Z they want.......which combo Z's are actually coming here......lol

Cjanik 06-13-2009 11:01 AM

thats dissapointing.

read other threads in this subforum, I went through 5 dealerships (in and out of state), and went to 3 of them TWICE, and 1 of the three times, just to get my car ordered.

It took me 1 month, every single weekend, going to dealerships and talking and arguing and whatnot, and one finally gave in.

they play lots of mind games, and it sounds like they did that to you, probably didnt want to order your car until your ready to buy rather than waiting for you to be ready.

Sorry to hear about the trade in

Im in the same situation as you. I have an 04 350z base with 46000 and Im working on getting a white base 370z with sports and some extras. I sent them pictures via email and they offered me $12,500 for the trade in. I'm content with the settled price...invoice minus trade in.... but if they try to pull some crap like that with me I will walk out as well. KBB states ~$13,000 for my 350 trade in but it has pretty bad road rash on the front bumper and hood so 12.5 is good with me.

Anyways...good luck with everything

screwed too!

I place an order in the beginning of march from Mike (Boardwalk) our dealer sponsor. I contacted him near the end of May for a ETA and to my surprise, the order was not fulfilled. He also said Nissan cutdown on productions and he was very sorry and was going to try and find me one. Till this day, he has not contacted me after sending him a couple of emails. Luckily i had already start to look for other dealers the past month.

You really don't need the navi!
Check out and see if they have the Touring + Sports available!
I was on the same boat as you but I wanted black.
Believe me you will not regret it!
+ There are many aftermarket navi's that will look much better and will be better!
Don't be afraid to customize!

When I bought my White Z sport touring navi....The only other close White touring 7AT was in Penn. And I live in Illinois ha, and it didnt have navi I didnt even ask about the 6spd that is going to be even harder to get I would think.

DAN

Yeah, but what other Navs will fit in there so plush without all kinds of expensive fabrication?

The problem with the dealers doing searches is that they constrain their searches to their state and adjacent touching states only. I went on my own search using Nissan USA web site. I did individual searches for a Pearl White 370Z Touring + Sport Coupe with all the goodies. I target only the major cities of highly populated states. I only found two that actualy fit the bill....one in New York City and the other in LA.

I reported this to the Nissan dealer I was considering to use to obtain the car. When I told them what I found they went on line and within 15 minutes they located 3 Pearl White Touring + Sport + 6MT with all the goodies. They were located in Greenville NC., Atlanta, GA., and Nashville, TN. The dealer then attempted negotiations with Nashville and they refused to let the car go. However Greenville, NC. did have a positive response with my dealer.

Upon reviewing the details of getting the car, the local dealer salesman told me that the normal course of any Nissan dealer is to stay within their state when looking for a car because when going out of state the risk is very high that the customer may change their mind and cancel after the dealer has bought the car from the out-of-state dealer and the car is already in-transit. So they get stuck with the car. He tried to get me into other colors such as Brilliant Silver with Black interior and a Black on Black. But I told him that for a 50% cash outlay I was prepared to make I wanted exactly what I wanted...Pearl White with Persimmon interior Touring + Sport with all the goodies.

In my case the dealer salesman knew me since I had a previous 15-year purchase history with that particular dealer. So he convinced his general manager that I would likely NOT back out of the purchase and he received permission to break the dealer hard rule and let him personally go to Greenville, NC. and purchase the car from the Greenville dealer using dealer monies. 36 hours later the car arrived at my local dealer and I took possession of my Pearl While Touring + Sport 370Z-6MT with Persimmon interior with all the goodies (except navigation). :happydance:

BTW - From what I understand the Nashville dealer still has the Pearl White with Persimmon interior Touring + Sport 6MT with Nav + kickplates + flaps. You may want to try to see if your local Nissan would be willing to try to obtain it from them or in the alternative fly to Nashville, buy it and drive it home. There is also a chance the Atlanta, GA. dealer still may have their Pearl White with Persimmon interior Touring + Sport 6MT with kickplates + flaps (no Nav).

Yeah, I came back from the dealer yesterday and he said that since he couldn't find the exact car I wanted (there was one in Minnesota) in the region, but he would be more than willing to order me one but it would take 12 weeks to get here....... I am debating on just waiting for the 2010 since no matter what, I won't get the car until after summer is over ....... now sure what to do.

Hi Lou,

Is there anyway for us regular people to locate something or does it have to come from the dealer?

Thanks

TacoZ 07-05-2009 10:35 PM

+1 Rep for Lou. Always a big help.

The only way is by searching dealer's inventory, Autotrader(NEW), and NissanUSA.com.

That was out of NNAnet, which is Dealer and Nissan Corp only.
Sorry.
