Almost Pulled the Trigger

I was finally going to get a 370z but the stealer here (Tony Nissan) was greedy. I had my Mini's title, check book, and even financing ready to go. They had a 2012 base Gun Metallic auto 370z for $33,990 msrp, nothing wrong there but they added almost $3,000 as a dealer markup for being in Hawaii. Give me a break, for a base Z! Then on top of that they would only give me $11,000 for my mint 2008 Mini Cooper S with only 24k miles, trade-in blue book is about $15,700. I have perfect credit and qualified for the zero interest loan but I just couldn't get them to come down anywhere close to msrp or give me close to what my Mini is worth. I walked out. Next day I get emails, texts, phone calls for me come back, the "sales manager likes you", he wants to deal. Suck it. I've moved on, I'm not paying that kind of money for a base Z. I'll try another dealer or end up getting a G37 or 335i.

I had a similar experience. But that did not stop me pursuing the Z. Just cause the dealer gave you sh1t doesn't mean you shouldn't get the car you really want. Go to another dealer or just tell the dealer what you want to pay.

Ive noticed dealers really play with peoples emotions with this car. They think people get so hard for this beautiful vehicle that they'll just say fukc it and give in and buy, which most of the time they are right.

How about getting the zero interest loan for full purchase price and just sell the mini on your own time. You wouldnt really be losing anything and you could get a lot more for the mini that way

I lived on the island a few years ago and they had a few brand new Base Z for sale for 29,500 to 30,000 at king windward in Kaneohe... You could try there
Keep in mind it was back in 2010 but you never know

The problem with Tony Nissan is that it is too close to Schofield. There are too many Soldiers with money burning a hole in their pocket so that makes for happy sales managers. I bought my Z from King Nissan...not that it's any greater but they did agree to VPP back in 09 when the 370z just arrived on island.

You should have no problem selling your mini in a private sale. Minis and jeeps are always in high demand in Hawaii. Try advertising on the other islands...shipping is about $500 or so to the big island or Maui. Shop around or ask some braddahs.

Good luck!

I agree, they figure a potential buyer will do anything to get his/her hands on this car. Good thing we have 3 Nissan dealers on the island, I'll try the other 2 before I give up. All good advise, thanks guys!

There has been a lot of good advice posted here. If the "Z" is what you want, I hope you get the deal you can feel good about. The mini is a fun car to drive, but the "Z" will really give you more smile time, especially on the windies! Good luck.
