Need Advice/Opinions!!

So I've been anxiously waiting to graduate college so I could get my new Z. That time has come and the model I want is 6 MT, Monterey Blue/Grey Leather, Sport, Nav, Splash guards, Kickplates.

I searched local inventories and one dealership has this EXACT model, except it is 7AT instead of 6MT. I went there today and asked a salesman hypothetically what the price would be, and when I asked for invoice he did not hesitate in saying that would be the price (making me confident I could get a couple hundred under invoice, at least). He also said if we were to order the car with 6MT, I would get it at invoice.

My question(s) to you guys is how long should I expect to wait if I was to order it with manual, as I had originally wanted? Should I take the 7AT instead, considering it is otherwise exactly what I want? I have never owned a manual car; I've been eagerly looking forward to making the Z my first, and was really pumped about Synchro Rev Match to help me out. That being said, is the 7AT the wiser decision?

Thanks in advance for any input/advice you guys might have.

I just ordered mine on monday, dealer said 4-8 weeks.

do not buy something that you dont really want, you WILL regret it. ive been there and done that with my truck. after all, the 370z is not a cheap vehicle.

Just get what your mind is set to. I like both 7AT and M6. They are VERY similar . But if you have always wanted to get a M6 Z, then put your order in for it. Since you never drove manual before, I would highly suggest you to get 7AT. Learning how to drive manual on a 40K sports car MAY not be the best idea. (Just my :twocents:)

Thanks for the advice guys. Salesman called today and said he would do $500 off of invoice for the 7AT, a great deal but I know I'll regret not getting the manual. Plus, since it's about $1200 extra for automatic, in my mind the final price is over invoice. After tirelessly searching through nissanusa, I found an exact match in Miami (would they transport that far for the $720 D&H?), and near matches in CT and PA (one without Nav and one with black leather). I think I'd be more than satisfied with either one, but I know I'd regret settling for the 7AT somewhere down the line.

Like someone else said if what you have in your mind is a 6mt mb w spt, gleather etc. Order that, the hell with everything else. big deal if you have to wait, thats just more time to save for a bigger down or to free up cash for mods. If theres one thing i learned in life is not to get something because you want it right away instead get it because its exactly what you want. That way there is no what if's or disappointments. remember you could purchase a ferrari and it might look like the most beautiful thing in the world to everyone that sees you driving it, but if YOU didnt get what YOU wanted, even that car will make you unhappy. JUST ME KEEPING IT REAL.

Haha. I'll take that as a joke cus you put some serious $$ into your Z. I know everything there is to know about manual and have briefly driven a friends, obviously still a n00b but I think I'll be ok. Going to a different dealer in NJ tomorrow, let's see if they'll be willing to bring the one from Miami up , if not I'll probably place an order soon (since they won't be taking them much longer). Thanks again.

It's no joke, if you buy mine and as long as your IQ is over 100, which I'm sure it is, I'll teach you. Even if it takes all day. I just need a cashiers check first.

Here is one that I almost bought in Maryland, which I guess is where you go to school. It has everything you want, except it has a perssimon interior and no kick plates. The perssimon leather is the reason I almost bought it. That is a sharp interior with the blue. Very "old school" sports car looking. They are selling slighltly bellow invoice.

BTW, are you by any chance from Long Island and attending the University of MD at College Park?

Haha very close guess... I did just graduate from UMD but from Staten Island. I hate being back here, I'm thinking of getting a job in DC if I can't find anything in Manhattan soon. Double major in Economics and Criminal Justice so working for a government agency on anti-money laundering in DC would utilize both. (If anyone's company is hiring for Economics degree let me know!!! Willing to relocate and get off this island.)

Also, I've seen a bunch of the Blue/Persimmon available but never in person. I love persimmon with black, white, and PG but I feel like it just wouldn't work with blue. I think of the Florida Gators and Willy Wonka.

Get the exact car you want. Period. You'll be driving it for years, so what if you have to wait an extra month or two to get it. It'll be worth it when you get the keys....

I went to MD in the 1990 and 91 but didn't graduate from there. We used to call it the University of Long Island at College Park back then. I know it has only gotten worse. The government is where it is at, but it takes forever to get the job. My girlfriend works for the DIA and it took her nearly a year to get an interview after she submitted her resume, and then nearly 6 months for them to complete her background investigation after they hired her. With your degree you would be a great candidate for the FBI or Secret Service. I don't think their hiring process in nearly as lenghthy.

If you get a chance to see the blue/persimmon in person then you should check it out. I really like that persimmon interior. I have the gray in my car and I'm not real crazy about it. Of course I am a Gator fan.

Good luck with your career and the Z.

IHas370Z? 06-04-2009 12:46 PM

Lol yea lots of New Yorkers at UMD, but I actually heard that Towson is worse. Thanks for the advice about the FBI and Secret Service I'll definitely check into them.

I think I've become indifferent between grey and black leather on the blue, but still unsure about persimmon haha. This may be excessive but I've been searching literally the entire right half of the U.S. for dealer's inventories and have found only a couple matches -- two with grey leather in Missouri and Florida and two with black leather in Ohio and Pennsylvannia, none with the kickplates (no big deal). The biggest question is how would I know these weren't demos or on the showroom floor where people sit and drool on it every day... I would have to have a clause that everything is perfect upon arrival.
