Dealer wont budge - 07 tour/sport/nav/ 40,000
I went in to this dealer in person, and looked at a white 09 370z touring w/ sports and nav, and carpets.
the price was 41,600, After looking at it and deciding I want this car, I told the salesperson that the price was much too high for me and i'd like to work something closer to 36,500. she looked at me and said "we have no control over the prices, Nissan USA set the prices". Obviously I left after that comment. :icon23: So anyway I then emailed them, and said the same thing, i'll pay closer to 36,500, hoping the dealer will counter with at least invoice, but the dealer said, "no, we can only do 1500 above invoice", So I emailed them back and said "can you at least match invoice?" forgot to mention, they said invoice was about 37,500. now they wont reply back to me, i think they are fed up with me, hah. am i pushing it by asking for invoice??? I asked lower than invoice at first so they will counter lower, I dont want to ask invoice then they counter above invoice. -edit- forgot to mention is a 6MT. ONE MORE QUESTION, the dealer told me the LAST DAY YOU CAN ORDER A 09 370Z IS JUNE 5TH, is this true or absolute BS to get me to feel pressured??? I dont want to pay premium for a 2010 just cuz its "newer". |
Did you check our dealer inventory section? We currently have two dealers (one in CA and other in st. louis, MO). Shoot them an email and see what they can do. I personally believe the BEST way to buy your new car is buy it out of state and then drive back. This way you learn a lot about your new car.
Good luck with the search. |
Sounds like you may need a new dealer. If you want to get invoice price, see this thread:
http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...i-vehicle.html Lots of peope getting Zs on the cheap thanks to Robert. |
Same car I ordered but with illuminated kickplates as well. Invoice is $36,593 which is listed on this board as well . Like Frost said hook up with Robert and go get your car.

Hi
|
hi, im really confused. u said that its an 07 370z?
|
sorry, typo, hit the wrong key, i noticed that too but i wasn't able to change the title after i posted it.
I went with the Admin's recommendation and contacted the N. CA dealer and, so far so good, im getting the exact same vehicle listed above for thousands less than my local dealer offered. Wont be long before I have it in my garage at this rate! |
Seriously, a lot of you guys think that Nissan dealers are desperate to whore out 370s. They're not Accords or Camrys that sell 200-300K annually.
You went too far bro. I'm a former car salesman, and if they don't contact you back, forget it. $1,000 over invoice is a good deal. $1,500 is OK. Don't expect Nissan stores to act desperate to whore out a 370. There are people who got a lot more money than you that'll let these dealerships make some profit. My suggestion: visit another Nissan store, don't mention "invoice, invoice, invoice." You're trying to make yourself seem like you know what you're doing, but you don't (with all due respect). Say they do let you have it at invoice, they'll rape you on the back-end in APR, accessories i.e. $400 wheel locks, $1,500 scotch guard, $3,000 extended warranty, $1,700 Lojack, etc. And you know what? You're going to pay interest on all these accessories so they'll more than make their money back even if the front-end was skinny or at invoice. |

The $400 wheel locks "that'll only cost you $15 extra per month, think about it, you don't want your wheels stolen, do you?" Let's see $15 x 60 = $900. Damn, $900 for wheel locks that were priced at $383! That's like 2.5x the original cost. No, these are really $40 wheel locks disguised as $383 ones. This is an example of back-end rape. |
all you gotta do is say no...lol...thats what i did....But...i paid sticker.

Hmmm.. Just find another dealership. Send out emails with the invoice price as the ONLY price you will buy the Z for. I went to my local dealership that had the exact Z that I want (used nissausa.com to find it) and said I will only sit and talk if I get invoice pricing. The sales person said "i don't know". After I heard those exact words I literally got up and said "Thanks for your time, I am going to another dealer." He told me to wait so he can go talk to his manager. My girlfriend and I sat down for 20 mins and the sales person came back with 38k, mind you this is for a PG Touring / sport / illum kicks / floor and trunk mats. I once again told him i'm not playing games, no deal and left. My girlfriend checked out the Z once more only to allow time for the GM to come out and talk about the price. I told him "I really like the car, so I can do $400 above invoice" 20 mins later, he gave it to me.
Dealers are desperate now even with a new car like the 370z. You can get invoice (or $400 above), you just have to be patient. Respectfully to dealers, its their loss if they cannot sell the car to you, you will just bounce to the next nissan dealer who will probably have a better understanding of the car market crisis. Another dealer will want to make $400 bucks instead of nothing. Some won't take the risk of keeping a car and hoping to sell it with a unreasonable mark up. Keep looking!!! Be patient and good luck! |

The way I see it is this, if they are making a profit on these cars, they will continue to do so, but if they are not, they will drop the price to "move" cars. Your probably right, I went too far for my local dealers - my local dealers must be making a good profit and selling a decent amount of 370z's. That would explain why I had to resort to out of state to get the deal I wanted. Why is it that person I spoke with in CA made the first offer below invoice, I didnt even ask for invoice yet? And He told me if I ordered one from factory and waited, he'd give me an even better discount as apposed to getting one thats in a dealer lot somewhere in CA. while you have a point, nobody wants to spend more money, the dealer knows this. Its human nature to get the best deal out of things, this applies to both the dealership and customers. One is just better versed at it than the other most of the time. |

Sounds like you're still a car salesmen and don't know the fine art of negotiation. I paid 1k under. What do you have to say about that sales guy? |

^ i agree with that guy. i worked with 10 dealers before choosing the one i placed my order with. this one dealer kept it real. i got the car a couple bucks under invoice. other dealers quoted 300, 600, 1000 over invoice. give me a break, i don't care what car it is... everyone's struggling and at the end of the day, it's a nissan. some of these dealers act like it's a one-of-a-kind car.
at the end of one of the emails i got the manager said "so what's your offer? keep in mind this is a limited production sports car and there are no rebates". i shot back with my offer and a "please keep in mind nissan sales were down 36% in april compared to last year". even at invoice, they make decent money. not only that, but if they're nice enough to work with me, i'll gladly refer people to them - customers they otherwise wouldn't have. |
Invoice is a fair deal, like you said at the end of the day everybody is struggling even the dealers. So don't think that we are all going to just give cars away and make zero dollars, we won't be around. I can understand if they aren't willing to give you a quote, but we do have to make money to stay in busniess.

I can't say I blame them for trying. It's their job to try and get a customer to buy it at sticker. They gamble on the fact that if they are too stubborn, you'll walk away. But if they call your bluff, they add 2-3 grand on their sale. It's all part of the game.
The good thing is, you know they are struggling for sales and you know that a bunch of people on this site have gotten at least invoice. So, you know it's doable. Bottom line, if you don't get a good deal, walk away. There are tons of dealers out there and if you have to drive a decent amount for a good deal, that just means you will have a head start on breaking in your Z when you drive it back home. |
if ur in vegas and wouldnt mind goin to so cal. then try fontana nissan. i checked craigslist and they got it fairly cheaper than most. they got alot selections. fontana isnt that far from vegas, if thats where ur located.

I went to a dealer in Folsom, CA and they offered me 12K trade-in and the rest on 12.95% APR because of my short sale. I told them that I'm selling the car for ~$16500 on Craigslist and wanted me to sign the loan. They said they were doing me a favor because 1) I was able to qualify for the loan given my situation and 2) they would give me 5 days to sell my car or they take it in. I walked away at that point. Keep in mind my 03 350Z has about $10K of stuff in it and KBB is about $14K IF stock.
Damn stealerships... trying to get my car for $12K. F no. |

The $12K trade-in sounds about right for a loaded 03 350Z, mods don't apply well to resale unless you can find the right buyer unfortunately. You could potentially do better with a private sale, however a private buyer may be concerned that you don't have enough cash to clear the title. Even if they write their check directly to the loan holder they need to know that you can pay the balance in cash. |

I get it now. You had to do a short sale on your home and that dinged your credit pretty badly. Considering the situation I think they are giving you a fair deal. I know 13% isn't the world's best rate, but it isn't awful considering your situation and the way banks look at lending today. There are people looking at 22% and on a pretty crummy selection of vehicles. As long as it is a stright up simple interest loan with no balloon payment at the end and no early pay off penalty. 12K is kbb trade in value for your car, and they are offering 100% of it. Most dealers use NADA and it isn't as generous as KBB. I'm sure they would still give you the 12K if you took off some of the extras. They usually don't figure those into a trade in value. I would consider taking off the extras and putting them up for sale on their own.

I agree with the above post, I had a race bike, worth 7,000 and i put over 7,000 in mods on it.
sold it for 6,000. mods = negative value still no luck with any local dealerships. I went to every single dealership in the city of Vegas (4) and they all either are unhelpful or cant answer my questions. I was SOO close to buying at the last dealership and asked for Invoice on a fully loaded Z and they said they couldnt get the invoice price - that they'll call me back on tuesday (memorial day crap), and its Wed and still no call...... also I cant get Mike from boardwalk nissan (the370z's authorized dealer) to answer any emails or phone calls, any idea whats up with him? |

My experience on the trade value with my Subaru. With mods, $2K under KBB average. Back to stock, $1.5K over KBB average with pending profit from the mod sales. |
Even at invoice, the dealer can make $1000, with the HB (holdback). On a $37,279 invoice, the holdback is $1048.
